One failed Server Installation experience-Linux Enterprise Application-Linux server application information. The following is a detailed description. Dell 750 server breakdown
Time: 20071029 sixteen o'clock P.M.
On Monday morning, I went to the company to check the server and found that the disk usage suddenly soared from around 80% of last week's 5 to 93%. I felt that the LVM volume group was abnormal and I didn't care too much at the time, I just wanted to record it and continue to observe it. In the afternoon, I found that the hard disk usage was still around 93%. So I deleted some old system logs and some old unused files and backups, after deleting the disk, check whether the disk space is larger than 92%. In this case, it is found that the remote SSH to the server using SecureCRT 5.1 has expired, and no response is returned when the WinSCP3 tool is exited and the remote SSH to the server again.

Dell 750 Server Solution

After learning that the server cannot be started, contact the IDC engineer by phone and send the backup file to the engineer who wants to log on to the system and re-overwrite the file. During the engineer's operation, the system prompts that the file has been overwritten, however, the server still cannot be started. The error cause is: ide0: I/O resource 0xlF0-0xlF7 not free. The engineer suggested that I go to the IDC to check the error, so I leave for the IDC center in the evening and check the machine later. I found that it was indeed an ide0: I/O resource 0xlF0-0xlF7 not free hard disk problem. So I used RHEL AS 4 to fix the installation, problems found after installation kernel/Vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.Elsam ro root =/dev/VdGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet error, at that time do not know what the reason, so call the header, because the evening time is very late, first let me go home first, then go directly to the IDC center the next day to solve the problem. After arriving home that evening, query the kernel/Vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.Elsam ro root =/dev/VdGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet problem online, I found that many posts written on the Internet can be started before RHEL press the key to compile this line of startup command to kernel/Vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.Elsam ro root =/dev/VdGroup00/LogVol00 single User Startup Mode, the next day, I went to The IDC and tried to change this line of command to restart RHEL. I found that The Error 15: The filesystem not found still reported. If no result is found, I can only reinstall RHEL. However, I found that RHEL has never been installed, no hard disk is detected, so I had to re-format the hard disk and redo RAID, but I was unable to install it all the time! It was not until the beginning of the afternoon that the server itself had a boot CD. You must first use the boot CD to create a kernel on the hard disk to boot the RHEL installation normally. At last, it is normal to re-configure some services in the system.

Based on the experience summarized in this case
First, I feel that I have little experience. After all, I have not been in touch with server configurations in a serious large cabinet, and I have no experience in handling problems.

Second, I went home last night and went online again to find information. I found that ide0: I/O resource 0xlF0-0xlF7 not free is indeed a common error on Dell 750 servers, the reason is that the boot disc is not used.

Third, I feel that I should be cautious in server operations in the future, especially when deleting some files, and make sure that daily backup is performed in a timely manner. Fortunately, there is no important database data on this server, otherwise, the loss may not be estimated. I will take it as a warning!

In short, through this incident, I feel that I have learned a lot of knowledge and experience. It is a good experience and lesson for my future career and study, I will continue to improve my experience and business level, and strive to become a qualified system administrator.
