When hosting a website server, you need to install software running on some common servers to manage this remote server more effectively. Today, based on my own management experience, we recommend ten useful server tools for your reference and sharing.

Arpfirewall

Arp Firewall-the first software that must be installed on a hosted server is the arpfirewall. However, in China's network environment, if you do not install the arpfirewall, you will be waiting for Trojans to be mounted. Currently, there are two main free arpfirewalls, one is Qihoo's 360 arpfirewall and the other is Jinshan arpfirewall.

Remote Desktop Connection

Remote Desktop-Remote Desktop Connection, formerly known as "terminal service client") is mainly used for Remote management of remotely hosted servers, which is very convenient to use and just as convenient as operating on a local computer. The remote server must first install the "Remote Desktop Connection" server program, and then the client can manage the server through the Remote Desktop.

FTP service and client

FileZilla -- uploads client files to the server. FTP is the most commonly used software. Microsoft's IIS comes with a simple FTP server software, the free FileZilla server software can also be installed on the server, and the Client can use the free FileZilla Client, supporting multi-thread file upload.

Hardware Detection

CPU-Z--CPU-Z is a free system detection tool, can detect the CPU, motherboard, memory, system and other hardware equipment information. It supports a comprehensive range of CPU types, with fast software startup and detection speeds. In addition, it can also detect information related to the motherboard and memory, which has our common memory dual-channel detection function. When Remotely Managing the server, you can use this software to clearly understand the hardware information of the server.

Traffic Monitoring

DU Meter-DU Meter is a simple and easy-to-use network traffic monitoring tool. Its graphical interface displays the network speed of server upload and download in real time, and provides traffic statistics. Statistical data such as daily traffic, Weekly Traffic, and monthly traffic can be analyzed. Unfortunately, this software is not free.

Port Monitoring

TcpView -- TcpViews is a free port and thread monitoring tool that lists the processes of all current TCP and UDP ports, including local and remote TCP connections, in fact, it is similar to the system command netstat, but it is a GUI that is easy to use and occupies less resources. The default font is very small in the Chinese environment and needs to be manually modified. When running on the server, the default refresh time should not be 1 second by default.

Process Monitoring

Process Explorer -- Process Explorer is a free Process Monitoring Tool with more powerful functions than the task manager provided by Windows. It can not only monitor, pause, and terminate processes, you can also view the DLL file called by the process, which is a good helper for preventing viruses and killing Trojans.

Log Analysis

WebLog Expert-although Google Analytics is a powerful and free website Analysis Service, it must be included in the statistics code for use. WebLog Expert can directly analyze the Website access log files, log files are used to analyze the statistics of website visitors, activity statistics, file access volumes, search engines, browsers, operating systems, error pages, and so on. They are a good helper for network monitoring. This software itself is not free, but another version of WebLog Expert Lite is free.

Log search

WinHex -- WinHex is a fast file editor. The speed of opening hundreds of megabytes of large files is fast. Using WinHex, you can easily open large log files on the server and search for keywords for them. The results are very good, it is the fastest text editing and search software I have seen. It is a very good hexadecimal editor in general.

Code editing

Notepad ++ -- Notepad ++ is a free and open-source code and HTML webpage code editing tool. It supports up to dozens of common source code or script syntaxes, including C, C ++, java, C #, XML, HTML, PHP, Javas example, RC resource file, makefile, ASCII, doxygen, ini file, batch file, ASP, VB/VBS, SQL, objective-C, CSS, Pascal, Perl, Python, Lua, etc., with powerful functions.
