SPFILE is a binary file automatically maintained by the Oralce server process. This file cannot be manually modified. Once it is manually modified, it becomes invalid.
On UNIX, this file is located in the $ ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory by default.
On the Window, this file is located in the $ ORACLE_HOME \ database directory by default.
This file is introduced to modify the instance or database configuration without stopping or restarting Oralce.
Create SPFILE
Use the create spfile command to create a PFILE. the user must be a SYSDBA role.
Create spfile [= 'spfile name'] from pfile [= 'pfile name']
If the SPFILE and PFILE names are not specified, the system creates a default SPFILE file using the default PFILE file. The default SPFILE name is "SPFILESID. ora ".
View SPFILE
Because SPFILE is a binary file, you cannot open it in the text editor for viewing and editing. You can use the create pfile command to create pfile through SPFILE:
Create pfile [= 'pfile name'] from spfile
Modify SPFILE
Use the alter system set command to modify the settings.
