Partitioning a hard disk on a computer without the Fdisk command

Nowadays, the development speed of hard disk capacity is far higher than that of other hardware devices. The 40 GB hard disk in the past is no longer "big", and the mainstream configurations are 80 GB and 120 GB, even 160 GB and GB are not a minority. After purchasing a large hard drive, the first thing is to partition the hard drive.

Generally, the operating system is not installed on the new machine. Many people use the Fdisk command to partition the boot disk. Full black/white English screen makes operations cumbersome. The Fdisk Command provided by windows 98/ME only supports 64 GB partition management. By the way, we would like to remind you that if the disk capacity exceeds 137 GB, Windows 98/ME will be out of contact with you because they do not support 48-bit LBA addressing, therefore, it is best to use the later NT Operating System (Windows 2000 SP3 or later versions/XP/2003) to manage hard disks. Although Microsoft has improved the Fdisk in the later NT operating system, however, the detection speed of hard disks and partitions is extremely slow (the hard disk is too large, and the workload increases exponentially). If an unexpected accident such as power failure occurs during the middle, the partition table may be damaged, of course, this is not good for hard disks! Therefore, to partition a hard disk, you must discard the Fdisk and find another partitioning path.

I. NT system installation and startup Disc
If you are operating on the new machine directly, because the operating system is not installed, first determine whether to enable the CDROM In the BIOS first: After the boot, press the Del key to enter the BIOS setup program, select the "BIOS Features Setup Menu" project and press Enter. On the project page, find "Boot Sequence" and press Enter, select "CDROM, C, A" by using the "Page UP" and "Page Down" keys, and press "ESC" to return to the root project interface, press the "F10" key to save the settings and exit.
If the main board uses AMIBIOS, you should click the "Advanced" item in the "Setup" group (AMIBIOS allows the mouse operation ), select "atapi cdrom" in "1st Boot Device", select "ARMD-HDD" for "2st Boot Device", and click the close button in the upper left corner to return to the root project interface, click the close button in the upper left corner and select Save and Exit ".
Put a boot disc of the NT System in the optical drive. Here, take the Windows XP installation disc as an example, Guide to the first option mode, and press the Enter key to select "Install Windows XP ", then select the partition step to partition the hard disk. In the select partition window, move the cursor to the "unpartitioned space" option with the up/down arrow key, press the "C" key, and prepare to create a partition. The cursor is already blinking in the create disk partition size line, enter the partition size and press Enter. Of course, if you still need to continue partitioning, you should not immediately format it. The reason is that after formatting the disk, the installer considers that you choose this partition as the partition of the installation system, after formatting is complete, the system will be installed on the copy file. If yes, return to the selection partition window and continue to select the "unpartitioned space" option, press the "C" key to create a partition, so that other partitions are created repeatedly.
Finally, select a partition (usually a drive C) to install the system. After the system is installed, use the Disk Manager of the operating system to continue disk management.

2. Computer Management, disk partitioning, and formatting
Right-click the "my computer" icon on the desktop (right-click the "my computer" icon in the "Start" menu ), in the displayed menu, select "manage", start the "Computer Management" tool, and expand "Storage> disk management" in the left-side directory tree ", in this case, the right panel is divided into two windows: upper and lower windows. The upper windows show the volume, layout, file system, status, and other parameter information of the partition with the drive letter allocated to the current disk, the following window graphically lists disk and CD-ROM partitions one by one (1 ).

Figure 1

Right-click the "available space" type rectangle in the next window, select the "new logical drive" menu item in the pop-up menu, and the "new disk partition wizard" window appears, click "Next" and go to step 2 to select the partition type, create a primary partition, an extended partition, or a logical drive for a new unpartitioned hard disk. Generally, after creating a hard drive partition, create all the remaining space as an extended partition, and then create a logical drive on the extended partition. Note that a hard disk can create up to four primary partitions or three primary partitions + one extended partition. After the extended partition is created, you can only create a logical drive on the extended partition, therefore, "primary disk partition" and "extended disk partition" are unavailable in gray.

Figure 2

Specify partition size: although the partition size is free to set the partition capacity based on the pre-determined size, but generally users want the partition size to be an integer GB, but somehow, such as after entering "2048, although the system prompts 2.00 GB in the disk management window, but in the "Resource Manager", it is magic that 0.01 GB is missing, which is changed to "1.99GB" (3 ), this is because the resource manager uses another disk algorithm to cause inconsistency. Therefore, enter an integer that is slightly greater than the standard value 1%. For example, if 2 GB is used, enter "2055". Then, the value is 2 GB in "Resource Manager. In addition, the disk capacity we created is greater than 4 GB. Therefore, you can only select FAT32 or NTFS format for the subsequent file system.

Figure 3

Specify the drive letter and Path: 4. By default, the latest drive letter is not used. You can select a drive letter from the drop-down box on the right. Of course, the system allows you to skip this step and continue the remaining operations: Select the "Do not assign drive letter or drive path" option, this will create a volume without a drive letter, in the future, you only need to right-click the volume in the legend window and select "Change drive name and path" to add this step (5 ).

Partition formatting: You can select FAT32 or NTFS based on your actual needs. If you are a domestic user, choosing FAT32 can avoid a lot of trouble; if users with high security requirements such as encryption and data protection are required, the NTFS file system should be given priority, so that the system stability will be improved. Note that the default disk format is NTFS (6). If you want to use FAT32, click the drop-down button on the right of "File System" and select "FAT32. The default "标”" is "". You can enter modifications in the" 标”" column, and select the "" check box to greatly increase the formatting speed; enable file and folder compression is only available in the NTFS file system.

Complete partitioning: After completing the new disk partition wizard, you can view the set value in the list box (7). After confirming the setting is correct, click "finish, the system begins to format the partition, which can be completed in a short time.

Iii. Old and strong, Disk Genius
Disk Genius (formerly DiskMan) not only provides basic hard Disk partitioning functions, such as creating and deleting partitions, but also allows you to hide, format, resize, and duplicate partitions.
