Perfect symbolic plug-in solution on ArcGIS platform

-- ArcSymbol

Map Symbols are the language units of maps. By interpreting map symbols, You can intuitively understand the geographical information expressed by maps. ArcGis's symbolic function has certain limitations on the plotting of Surveying and Mapping symbols, especially those with a large proportion. The Symbolic System of most other ing software is basically for each software. Different software has an independent Symbolic System and leaves the software platform, it cannot be called by other software without removing block symbols or adding guides, the ArcSymbol developed by Zhejiang University Digital Information System Co., Ltd. enables convenient, fast, and lossless viewing and printing of images meeting the topographic map schema requirements without the need to scatter or add guides in the ArcGis operating environment, reduce data redundancy in the spatial database. In addition, ArcSymbol supports the Shape, Coverage, and Geodatabase formats, so that you can easily realize graphical symbolic without data conversion, so as to achieve lossless symbolic.

Able to make beautiful and practical topographic maps

Figure 1: symbolic display of Topographic Map Data

Only a specific symbol library can be used to represent Topographic Map Data. Use the command button to locate the symbol library, and establish a one-to-one correspondence between the topographic map element category and the code in the data and the corresponding symbol IDs in the symbol library, display simple points, lines, and surfaces as standard symbols (see Figure 1 for symbolic effects ). For a specific symbol library, you can make it according to specific requirements. The specific production method will be further described later.

Flexibly customize the symbol library as needed

It is essential for users to flexibly define their own symbols. Different software provides different methods and means, while ArcSymbol provides users with quite complete functions in this respect.

In view of the differences between industries, regions, and service objects, this plug-in provides users with a way to create symbols in all the map legends (this plug-in has a special advantage in creating symbols for large-scale map images ), considering the consistency of Symbol Specifications and the strict data format, the following symbol editor is provided.

This plug-in classifies the symbols used for surveying and painting into eight categories: G, L, LG, LM, LD, LC, DL, and H.

After installing the plug-in, run "Start> program> ArcSymbol". The dialog box shown in 1 is displayed. The eight types of symbols are listed in the dialog box. If the symbol library has been customized, specify it in the dialog box.

For more information about how to edit symbols, see operation instructions. Here is a brief introduction:

1, Point Symbol

In the ArcSymbol symbol design system, the point symbol is a G symbol. Here, the creation of point symbols not only refers to the creation of small-area or point-type objects that are not expressed according to the scale, but also includes the sub-Symbols required for the creation of line symbols and fill symbols, to facilitate the call.

The basic idea of creating a point symbol is to edit the symbol in the symbol Editor, add the symbol element one by one, or perform the import operation to find a similar symbol and introduce it to the symbol element list box, further modification is made on this basis. Finally, the import operation is completed, and the symbol is edited. Note that in the symbol edit dialog box, "symbol name" is the symbol identifier, which must be consistent with the feature encoding in the data.

2,Linear symbols

In the ArcSymbol symbol design system, linear symbols are divided into six types: L, LG, LM, LD, LC, and DL.

The L-type symbol is a simple line class that can be drawn from the definition of the wireless width. For example, solid line, dotted line, and dot line. LG class symbols are linear objects formed by G class symbols regularly inserted based on the definition rules, such as power lines. LM class is a primitive line type. The elements are evenly distributed between two points at a certain interval. The elements include vertical short-term and small-circle, for example, steep Ridge. LD class is a simple double-line Class Object symbol consisting of two L-series lines according to a certain width and connection form. For example, railways and general paths; LC is a composite line composed of class L, LG, LM, and LD, such as walls and barribars; a dl class is a type of Dual-axis line that consists of a probe line or symbol inserted in a certain way between two axes, such as steps and slopes.

3, Surface symbol

In the ArcSymbol symbol design system, the surface symbol is the H symbol. Class H is a surface symbol that can be filled inside, such as rice field and a 1-schema house.

Because there are many symbol types and the symbol editing function is powerful, it is difficult to grasp them. You can introduce existing symbols and summarize the rules to gradually master the symbol editing of Arcsymbol.

In the ArcSymbol symbol design system, symbol combinations are powerful. You can design the required symbols by combining different symbols with the same unit. In addition, some symbols can be edited by different types of symbols. For example, unreinforced dashboard can be made by LG or LM symbols, it can also be made by LC symbols.

Effectively solves database data redundancy and speeds up Operation

In addition to the trouble of drawing some auxiliary points and guides, in the ArcSymbol symbol design system, you only need to have a skeleton line of the pattern, and after symbol matching, you can completely express the pattern that conforms to the national standard. For example, the slope is divided into slope edges and many slope feet in ArcGis. If you have installed the ArcSymbol plug-in, you can use only one object after symbol configuration, steps and railways can also achieve the same effect. This is significant for projects with large data volumes to solve data redundancy problems. The following figure shows how to use the plug-in ArcGis.

Supports multiple data formats

The arcsymbol plug-in is used in ArcGIS, and data exchange is not required. You only need to configure the symbol library to easily realize graphical symbolic. Supports shape, coverage, and Geodatabase formats.

Conclusion

Arcsymbol is a dynamic symbolic plug-in that integrates the national standard symbol library into ArcGIS. It creates and manages the symbol library through arcsymbol to Facilitate the Implementation of topographic map symbolic, so that different software can easily use the unified symbol system.

In the symbolic match process, the color of the symbol cannot be stored in the symbol library. You can only manually select the color during the matching process.

In addition, manual intervention is required to make the topographic map of the Database Symbolic to meet the plotting requirements. This also requires us to constantly improve the data standards and software development for database creation in the future. At the same time, the current topographic map has been rid of the color of the old-fashioned topographic map, the topographic map tends to be more beautiful and practical, so we need to constantly explore new representation methods.
