PHP7.1 update: performance is more important than syntax. As PHP 7.0 significantly improves the speed, Version 7.1 continues to optimize the performance of web servers.
The specific features are not clear yet, but there is still room for improvement in performance. Zeev Suraski, CTO of Zend, which leads the development of the PHP engine, said, "Although the performance of this version is not as powerful as that of 7.0, we still focus on performance."
Zuaraski said there are also many syntax-level RFCs (Request for Comments), but it is not clear which ones can be accepted.
The features in PHP 7.1 include: Null type; capture multiple exceptions using a single catch statement; support for HTTP/2 server push; void return type, no value; supports negative and cheap operations on strings. In analyticdb 7.1, illegal arithmetic string input is also warned and a series of input validation.
"Basically, I think people are much more concerned about performance than new syntax ." Zuraski said, "PHP is a mature language, which explains why PHP 5.x is so slow and why PHP 7 is so popular with performance ."
Although the tentative Version 7.1 may be released in December November, the official release may wait until December 2018. Suraski said.
