My Documents is a system folder in WindowsXP, but many friends don't use it very often, or simply put it in a file that is used to work. In fact, "My Documents" is not just storing files so simple, it also hides a lot of secrets and features are not used!

1. Change the path for easy file saving

The default path for My Documents is "c:documents and settings user name My Documents", and for security reasons, it is common for everyone's work files not to be saved on the system partition, so it is necessary to transfer the "My Documents" path.

Right click on the "My Documents" icon on the desktop, select the "Properties" command, open the Property Settings dialog box. Transfer to the Destination Folder tab and click the Move button. In the Popup Browse for Folder dialog box, select the Common working folder path. This makes it easy to save to your working folder at any time when you edit the file.

Sometimes you need to copy multiple files of different paths and move to a specific folder, you can set the My Documents path to the folder where you want to save the file. Then right-click on the file you want to move and select the "Send to → My Documents" command in the pop-up menu to quickly copy files from different paths to the specified location.

2. Create a "no window" resource Manager

By setting up, you can view the "My Documents" content in the Start menu and use this feature to create a convenient resource manager.

First, right-click on the Start menu, select Properties, click the Customize button, open the Advanced tab, find My Documents in the Start menu items list, and set to show as menu. Once set, selecting My Documents directly from the Start menu will automatically pop up the next Level submenu, where you can see my music, My Pictures, and more.

Now press the method above to set the default path modification for My Documents to a commonly used work letter, such as can be set to "D:". After setting up, click "Start → all Programs" and move your mouse to "My Documents" to see all the folders and sub-folders in the D drive. First copy the pictures you want to make into a screen saver into the My Documents → My Pictures folder, then right-click on the desktop and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. Click the Screen Saver tab, select "Picture Collection Slideshow" in the drop-down box, then click the "Settings" button, and in the Settings dialog box, you can set the display effect of screen saver. When you're done, click "Preview" to see the effect. Tick the "Use transitions between photos" option to have beautiful picture transitions.

4. Fast network sharing files

Sometimes some documents need to be shared on the network for other users to view, or co-edited by multiple people, you can set the My Documents default path to a network share. Right-click on My Documents, open the Properties dialog box in the pop-up menu, and select the "Share" tab. Set a share name and number of users to access, click the "Permissions" button, you can set the user's "My Documents" read and Write permissions. When you are finished, when you want to share the file with other network users, right-click, select "Send to → My Documents", the operation is very convenient.

5. Document Index Accelerated Search

If you frequently search for information in My Documents, you can open the My Documents Index feature so that the search speed will be greatly improved.

Right-click My Documents, select the Properties command, and then, on the General tab, click the Advanced button, under Archive and index, set the index of the files in My Documents to speed up the search.
