I do the software, the boss is the hardware. I felt that his demands and tasks were unreasonable and unable to communicate, and he always said I understood the wrong thing. What am I supposed to do?
This is a question that I have been asked on the sub-answer, which we often encounter at work: our understanding of the same task is clearly biased with our superiors .
In the face of such a situation, what should we do?
First, keep in mind that demand and task discussions are not Tong, not who you are trying to persuade, nor who is trying to persuade you, but that everyone is looking for a workable path for a common purpose. So be wary of "I must convince you" and "I just can't let you convince me".
Then, we can follow the following steps to try to communicate with the boss:
- First you have to make a background statement and tell the boss that the purpose of your discussion with him is to agree with him and to get the job done better.
- Then, ask the boss what his understanding of the task is like, let him talk about his ideas, let him talk about the task completion, delivery time, the quality of production and other aspects of expectations. Record this information on the left half of the whiteboard.
- Then, talk about your understanding of the task, tell me about your analysis, and give a variety of data. Write all of your information on the right half of the Whiteboard
- Then there is the contrast and see where your understanding differs from the boss's understanding.
- After finding the difference, we will further analyze where the difference begins, what results will result, and how to eliminate it.
In the discussion with the boss, to keep calm and objective, even if the boss denies your understanding, but also to try to talk about, do not vent emotions.
If you are not able to eliminate the differences in understanding the task, you can also try to jump out and go back to the beginning of the point to analyze: What is the goal of this task? There is no 3rd choice to save?
This sometimes has a special effect: there is another way to go.
Usually, as long as we maintain the same goal with the leaders, we communicate with the method of comparative analysis, we often get good results.
