TIPS: Modify the registry and change the volume label to the optical drive.

Recently in order to facilitate the dial and watch a large DVD purchased Samsung Kang Bao optical drive, because the original CD-ROM reading disk is still good, I finally decided to implement the dual drive "policy ", and set Kang Bao drive as the main disk, CD-ROM from the disk.

It wasn't long before, but I found a headache: when there was only one optical drive
In the brain "it is the" disc ", this is very clear is the CD-ROM; now because of the installation of two optical drive, but the operating system to the Kang Bao optical drive is still" disc ", although the main disk is Kang Bao, from the disk is CD-ROM so the first "cd" (F) is Kang Bao and the second "cd" (G) is CD-ROM, but a long time is still easy to cause confusion, I often watch the DVD when the pop-up CD-ROM, while reading the ordinary disk pop-up Kang Bao. Later, I found that a computer with a Windows XP system can use different labels to differentiate the optical drive, such as "DVD drive" and "CD drive", and the icons are different, however, Windows 98/Me/2000 systems do not work. Are these systems really unable to change the volume labels for the optical drive? (The optical drive volume label cannot be changed as easily as the hard drive volume label !) After some research on the Windows Me/2000 registry, I finally found a solution, hoping to provide some help to users with dual-drive.

For Windows users, start the Registration Table editor regedit.exe and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ DriveIcons. (the following content does not include quotation marks) create a new item "F" in it, create a new item "DefaultLabel" on "F", and enter "DVD_CDRW" in the default string value ", similarly, create "G", "DefaultLabel" and "CD-ROM", and then open "My computer" to refresh. For Windows 98/Me users, the first step is the same as above; the second step is to find HKEY_USERS \. DEFAULT \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ MountPoints \ F create "DefaultLabel" in it and enter "DVD_CDRW" in the DEFAULT string value, also in HKEY_USERS \. DEFAULT \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ MountPoints \ G create "DefaultLabel" in it and enter "CD-ROM" in the DEFAULT string value, and then restart the computer.

Note that this second step is required for Windows 98/Me systems. Otherwise, you cannot change the volume. After I changed the volume label, I didn't confuse the two optical drives any more.
