To create a full Remote Assistance session

The two sides of remote Assistance are called "beginners" and "experts" respectively. To use Remote Assistance, both sides need to use the operating system after Windows XP, and both require an Internet connection or are located within the same LAN. Creating a full Remote Assistance session can take the following steps.

(1) Beginners initiate Remote Assistance requests, which can be used mainly with Windows Live Messenger or e-mail.

(2) The expert accepts the request and opens a terminal window for displaying the beginner's desktop.

(3) The original expert can only view the beginner's desktop and exchange information through text or voice. Before an expert can operate on a target computer, the novice must enable the option to allow expert action.

In addition, the "expert" used to provide assistance can initiate Remote assistance, so that even if the other person does not know how to initiate Remote Assistance, it can also start work directly. Also, if both sides use Windows Live Messenger chat software, you can initiate Remote Assistance directly in the Chat window.

Remote Assistance creates a direct connection between two computers by using TCP/IP, and requires both computers to be able to communicate using their own IP addresses if the connection is to be successfully assembled. If both sides of the Remote Assistance feature have a public network IP address provided by TCP, it is fairly easy to establish such a connection. In this case, the computer can connect directly and receive and send data from the TCP 3389 port. The routers in the network connection between the two computers can recognize the addresses of both computers and send their packets to the correct destination, and Windows Firewall automatically opens the port when the user requests a Remote Assistance connection.

There is no trouble between Remote Assistance connections in an internal network, such as a workgroup in a home or small office, because each computer can communicate directly with other computers without having to go through any routers.

When you use the Remote Assistance feature, you need to open port 3389 locally, so the network firewall installed may have an impact on that feature. Windows itself is built with Windows Firewall, which can automatically open the required ports when needed. Most of the Third-party firewall products available on the market can also automatically open certain ports as needed. In this case, the firewall does not have an impact on the normal use of the Remote Assistance feature.

If a deep XP system downloads a third-party firewall and cannot use the Remote Assistance feature, you can try temporarily disabling the firewall to see if Remote Assistance is working properly. If you can use the firewall after disabling, it means that the firewall needs to be configured, refer to the specification of the firewall software, and if Remote Assistance is still unavailable after disabling the firewall, the problem may be caused by other reasons and requires specific analysis of the specific problem.
