Ubuntu Tutorial: Upgrade Your LibreOffice through PPA

For every newly installed Ubuntu system, you will have a LibreOffice office tool. Many people know Microsoft's Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, but few know LibreOffice.

LibreOffice is maintained by volunteers from all over the world and supported by a charitable foundation. It is a major free office tool in the Linux community. It can be installed on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and other computer systems.

Just five days ago, a new version will be open to the public. Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux users can download the latest version from the download page.

Ubuntu users have the advantage of adding LibreOffice software repositories to their computers to install and upgrade the latest version. This method is useful if you want to get the latest version as quickly as possible.

The latest LibreOffice package version is 4.1. Each subsequent version can be immediately found in the repository of 4.1 until the new main line version, such as 4.2, is released.

Therefore, to automatically upgrade Ubuntu, add the following software repository address.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa 

Then, run the following command to upgrade the latest LibreOffice.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 

That's all. When you add the above repository and upgrade the system, Ubuntu will automatically download and install the latest LibreOffice version.

Windows and Mac OS X users can directly upgrade the software package or download it from the web page.
