We need to do three operations:

Because we want to use a section break, the default section break is not displayed in Word. So, for our convenience, we let it show.

When you insert a section break, place the cursor where you want to insert: page layout-> separator-> Two in a section break area. The difference is that selecting the next page inserts an extra page break, and the text that follows the page break will be another page.

Format Page Numbers

1. Stop the cursor on the cover page and precede the first section break.

2, insert the tab-> page number-> set the page number format.

3, because we need the number of Roman numerals in the catalogue section, we choose this format. Then select the starting page number and leave the default setting on the right, starting at 1.

4, the cursor to stop the preface directory section, located in the middle of the first and second section breaks.

5, Insert the tab-> page number-> set the page number format.

6, the text we want to use the number of Arabic numerals, we choose this format. Then select the starting page number and leave the default setting on the right, starting at 1.
