2. After installing X window, install the desktop kit, "desktop" or "KED desktop environment"

Two optional one, I think "Desktop" is closer to the Linux habit, I installed the KDE feel not accustomed to uninstall, to see personal habits.

You can also install both, switch can also if you are logged in as a graphical login to Linux, then click on the Login Interface session (Task) can choose Gnome and KDE. If you are logged in as text, then perform Switchdesk gnome or Switchdesk KDE and then startx to GNOME or KDE.
