Modifying a configuration file

VI /ETC/MY.CNF.D/SERVER.CNF

Add under [mysqld]
Character-set-server = UTF8
Character-set-filesystem = UTF8

Save exit

[Email protected] ~]# service mariadb restart

In MySQL

SHOW VARIABLES like ' character_set_% ';
SHOW VARIABLES like ' collation_% ';

Check that the results are correct
