When Tang Yuan met Rose, Android Developers announced through Google + that Google officially pushed Google Play services 4.2 to Global Devices. In this new version, in addition to the rumored support for Google Cast APIs, the Google Drive API was updated and a new client API was added.

In the upgraded version of Google Play services 4.2, developers are most excited by the previous Google Cast API Based on Android. This also means that Google Play has finally achieved full official support for Chromecast. In this way, developers only need to use the Google Cast SDK to integrate Chromecast into existing mobile or Web applications and publish it on the Google Cast developer console, this allows users to control the content displayed on large devices, such as televisions, through smartphones and tablets.

For the brand new Google Drive Android API, Google said that in addition to simply uploading files through the Android sharing framework, developers can also add more in-depth support for Google cloud storage solutions. In addition, this API provides a Transparent Offline Syncing function. When the network is disconnected, Google Drive allows the application to temporarily save a copy of the file or content to be uploaded locally. When the network is reconnected, then implement synchronization.

In addition, Google has released a new client API through which developers can use a single API to connect all or any desired Google Play services, such as games and Google +. Google recommends that developers should migrate to the new API, because although the old version of the client connection mode will continue to work, it will gradually be discarded and removed in the future.

Now, developers can directly download and update the Google Play services SDK through SDK Manager. To learn more, log on to the Developer Center to view the update documentation (Google Cast SDK, Drive API, Google Play services, API reference).
