How to find an open-source project on sourceforge and install it on centos-Take htop installation as an Example

1. What is htop?

Top is a common monitoring program in linux. htop is equivalent to its enhanced version. It displays different parameters in color and supports mouse operations.

Ii. How to download?

Generally, open-source projects are hosted on sourceforge, and of course some are hosted on github, but github has only recently become popular, so there are more mature projects on sourceforge.

Step 1: Find the htop page on sourceforge.

Step 2: Find the directory where the file is located. The steps are as follows:

1. Select browse all files

2. Select the htop file directory

3. Select the latest version.

4. Get the download directory.

There are two directories and file names it is easy to find the file directory we are looking for: http://sourceforge.net/projects/htop/files/htop/1.0.2/htop-1.0.2.tar.gz

5. Download

Wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/htop/files/htop/1.0.2/htop-1.0.2.tar.gz

3. How to install it?

Install htop

tar zxvf htop-1.0.2.tar.gzcd htop-1.0.2./configuremakemake install

Clear

After installation, clear the temporary files generated during compilation and files generated during configuration. Run the following command:

　　make clean 　　#make distclean 

So far, the software installation is complete.

Iv. Decompress software packages in various formats

1. Decompress *. tar with tar-xvf

2. Use gzip-d or gunzip to decompress *. gz

3. Use tar-xzf to decompress * .tar.gz and *. tgz.

4. Use bzip2-d for *. bz2 or use bunzip2 for decompression.

5. Use tar-xjf to decompress * .tar.bz2

6. Use uncompress to decompress *. Z

7. Decompress *. tar. Z with tar-xZf

8. Extract files using unrar e for *. rar

9. Decompress *. zip with unzip
