Install centos5 and windows on Dell 320

First install window or window already exists. To install Linux, see the following configuration.

Windows Installation is omitted here, starting from Linux installation. (Many of the following are from networks)

1. Use Linux PCI = nomsi to enter the installation system during installation

2. Do not use the LVM when partitioning. You can use a normal partition. If you have this boot, the kernel panic and the file system cannot be found. (This is important)

3. After installation, the system cannot be started. (This is for sure !) So start with disk1 and run the Linux PCI = nomsi Rescue Command. Then

1) chroot/mnt/sysimage

2) wget http://home.san.rr.com/johninsd/... 8.bin.static.tar.gz

3) tar zxvf lilo-22.8.bin.static.tar.gz

4) Vim/etc/Lilo. conf. The content is as follows (for reference only, Please modify it according to your own machine situation, and the brackets are comments)

Boot =/dev/SDA

Map =/boot/system. map-2.6.18-53.el5

Prompt

Timeout = 50

Lba32

Default = Window

Image =/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.el5

Label = Linux

Append = "PCI = nomsi root = label = /"

Initrd =/boot/initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img

Read-Only

Other =/dev/sda1 (window partition)

Label = Window

Table =/dev/SDA

4. Execute lilo-V. After restart, you can enter the system normally. I think this method can also be used in RedHat, fedora, and other versions.

Collect and organize the Linux learning network, and paste the original link.

Dell message 320:

Dell dm553 ---- 320mt Intel Pentium dual-core processor e2160, 1.8 GHz 13792 cache 667 MHz Front-End bus, 2g (2*1g) necc DDR2 250 MHz SDRAM memory, G

SATA (7200) Hard Drive, integrated with Broadcom 10/100 Ethernet Card, integrated with ATI radcon Xpress 1100 Chip

Problem:

1. the SATA hard drive is not recognized

2. The grub bootloader does not work

Installation:

1. the Linux kernel must be 2.6.18 or later to identify the south bridge chip of the ATI motherboard (answer from Shandong Dell)

2. Use Linux PCI = nomsi during installation

3. Custom partitions during partitioning. Do not use LVM

4. You can disable grub during installation because you need to overwrite it later.

5. After the installation is complete, boot with the first disk and start Linux PCI = nomsi rescue

6. After the language is set and the network is set, the system prompts that Mount sysimage failed. Continue, Mount succeeded, and go to shell.

7. chroot/mnt/sysimage

8. wget http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo/lilo-22.8.bin.static.tar.gz

9. Tar zxvf lilo-22.8.bin.static.tar.gz

10. CP./sbin/LILO/sbin/lilo

Boot =/dev/SDA

Map =/boot/system. map-2.6.18-8.el5

Prompt

Timeout = 50

Lba32

Default = Linux

Image =/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-8.el5

Label = Linux

Append = "PCI = nomsi root = label = /"

Initrd =/boot/initrd-2.6.18-8.el5.img

Read-Only

12. For details in Lilo. conf above, please check the local

13./sbin/lilo-V

14. Reboot is complete.

Title: Summary of Installation Problems of Dell () 320

Mailing station: shuimu community (Thu Aug 16 12:57:45 2007), within the station

Let's take a look at this machine.

The bios of Dell's machines is faulty.

Dedicated BIOS for Vista

Therefore, Linux cannot be installed at all.

Specially processed redflag 5 can be installed, but it is not used to Linux, which is not as good as XP.

Brief description:

1. If the system can be installed, add the kernel option PCI = nomsi at startup.

2. If the system needs to be bootable, there are two options: one is to switch to Lilo for guidance, and the other is not used by most distributions.

Grub 0.97, while using the new grub2 (1.97)

Debian is the most convenient release for installation.

I installed it on a three-in-one amd64-i386-ppc DVD.

Select the EXPERT mode before installation, because you need to install LILO or grub2

After installing the system, choose LILO or chroot to install grub2 in the installed system (but this seems to be available only in Sid)

PCI = nomsi must be added to the additional options of Lilo, otherwise it cannot be started.

Grub2 should be set to write grub2 to MBR, otherwise there will be no Bootstrap (Note: grub4dos cannot be guided)

I installed grub2 without writing nomsi.

Google's testingonx86 topic is described in detail

I installed am64-sid + grub2 now

The video card of this machine is Ati.

Sometimes very slow

Very depressing
