  1. Command format:

    free [options]

  2. Command function:

    Displays system usage and idle memory conditions

  3. common options:

        -B   display memory in byte units

    -K   display memory in KB units

        -G   display memory in gigabytes

  4. Common examples:

    Example one: Display memory usage, shown in megabytes

    Command: free-m

Description

    • shared: Sum of memory shared by multiple processes

    • cached: Memory buffer size for read data

    • -/+ Buffers/cache: displaying physical memory allocations at the application's point of view

    • swap: Swap partition size
