The recent merger of Oracle and Sun has been a major concern for many developers, mainly because of the potential for new changes in the MySQL database, which this week made 10 promises to MySQL users, developers and customers.

Oracle has had a constructive discussion with the European Commission on Oracle Sun's trading case and pledged to keep MySQL competitive in the database market. To further EU approval, Oracle disclosed its ten commitments, which read:

1, the storage engine to ensure continuous availability of API.
Oracle ensures and periodically strengthens MySQL's pluggable storage engine architecture, providing users with the flexibility to choose from local and third-party products to provide storage engines. This guarantee means that MySQL's current usage policy is valid, allowing storage engine vendors that match the Sun files to access the MySQL database.

2, do not advocate commitment.
As a copyright holder, Oracle will change Sun's current policy without claiming or threatening anyone, and storage engine Third-party vendors must be based on the GPL because they have implemented the application programming interface effectively as part of MySQL's pluggable storage engine architecture. The business license does not need to pass the Oracle request. Oracle will replicate this commitment to a storage vendor that has a commercial license relationship with Sun.

3, the license commitment.
When their current MySQL OEM agreement terminates, Oracle will provide these storage providers with the same license terms as sun, no more than 2014 years. Oracle will replicate this commitment to a storage vendor that has a commercial license relationship with Sun.

4, commitment in the future to strengthen MySQL based on the GPL release.
Subsequent versions of MySQL, including version 6, will be released through the GPL. Oracle will not release a new corporate-enhanced version without releasing a community-enhanced version. Oracle will continue to expose all versions of the MySQL community version of the source code, which will be provided free of charge.

5. Support is not mandatory.
MySQL. Customers are not required to obtain support services from Oracle as a condition for buying a business license.

6, increase the cost of research and development of MySQL.

Oracle is committed to providing appropriate funding for the continued development of MySQL (GPL version and commercial version). Over the next 3 years, Oracle will spend more on MySQL research and development than in Sun's latest fiscal year ($ 24 million), before the deal is completed.

7, set up a MySQL customer advisory board.
No later than the 6-month anniversary, Oracle will create and fund a customer advisory board that includes guidance and feedback from end users and embedded customers as a key issue for MySQL's development priorities as well as other MySQL customers.

8, set up a MySQL storage engine supplier Advisory Committee.
No later than the 6-month anniversary, Oracle will create and fund a storage engine vendor Advisory Board that provides guidance and feedback as a key issue for MySQL's development priorities, as well as other MySQL storage engine vendors.

9, MySQL reference manual.
For the MySQL reference manual, Oracle will continue to maintain updates and free downloads, and the quality remains consistent with Sun's offer.

10, customer support services will continue.
Oracle will ensure that paid end-users and embedded customers provide MySQL support services to update subscriptions according to customer preferences.

These commitments are on a global scale and continue until the five anniversary of transaction completion.
