Enable telnet in centos 5
1. Install the required software
Check the Telnet package first
Telnet is installed by default. telnet-server must be installed later.
[Root @ Hsia ~] # Yum install telnet-Server
[Root @ Hsia ~] # Rpm-Qa | grep Telnet
Telnet-0.17-39.el5
Telnet-server-0.17-39.el5
2. Start Telnet.
Check the Telnet run level.
[Root @ Hsia ~] # Chkconfig -- list | grep Telnet
Ekrb5-telnet: Off
Krb5-telnet: Off
TELNET: Off
[Root @ Hsia ~] # Chkconfig telnet on
[Root @ Hsia ~] # Service xinetd restart
3. Login Attempt
Enable the Windows Telnet service for Logon
Normal user OK, root enter the correct password and an error message is displayed.

4. Solve the blocking conditions for root login in step 3.
Solution:
Modify the/etc/PAM. d/Remote Configuration File

# Auth required pam_securetty.so
Log On again with root. Successful.
