VMware, Centos, and Unity Modes

The 64-bit version of centos 6.4 is used here.

1. dual systems and virtual machines

When I was just learning Linux, the teacher stressed that I should not use virtual machines, because it may be better than cd/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/, and ubuntu has a very convenient installation five times, therefore, linux is usually used in dual-system mode. In a twinkling of an eye, a few years have passed (and I don't want to discuss where I am going). Now I think the biggest problem with this method is that switching between Linux and windows is troublesome and has to be restarted. In addition, the rapid development of software and hardware has made it easier for me to use virtual machines. To optimize the experience, I installed an ssd on my computer to Improve the quality. It should be noted that when installing ssd, pay attention to the 4 K alignment, and the performance will increase by about 10%.

2. Establish the environment

VMware player is used here. Because the player is free and not very large, you just need to go directly to the VMware official website. Now the latest player can also be used to create a new Virtual Machine (which may have been like this for a long time). I wanted to run it directly from the next image on their official website, but it was billed and I had to install it myself. After installation, you can use the virtual machine.

3. unity mode and VMware tools

VMware's unity mode refers to the ability to use applications on the client on the host machine. In this way, using a program on the client is not much different from opening a software on the host machine, so it is very convenient to use. However, to use the unity mode, you must install VMware tools. Otherwise, if you want to enter the unity mode, the system will always prompt "the virtual machine cannot enter the Unity mode because:-The client operating system resolution cannot be changed ".

The installation of VMware tools is also relatively simple:

(1) On the host, choose [Player]> [management]> [install VMware Tools] From the Player menu bar, and click Install. After the download is complete, the installation disk of VMware tools has been mounted on the client. The default value is in the/media directory.

(2) log on to the client operating system as root in the virtual machine, and then open the terminal window, # cd/media/VMware \ Tools /. We can see that there is a VMware toolsinstallation package tar.gz in this directory, and then decompress it to a directory, where the tmp directory is used: tar zxvf VMwareTools-xxxxxx.tar.gz-C/tmp/(version numbers may be different, Here replaced by xxx ).

(3) Go to the installation directory: cd/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib /. Run the perl installation script (the execution environment of perl comes with the centos system here, if not, install it on your own):./vmware-install.pl.

(4) For a white user, press enter all the way. After that, restart the client. On the host, select [Player]> [Unity] From the Player menu bar to enter the Unity mode. A menu appears at the bottom left of the host screen (the name you defined for the VM installation should appear on it). From this menu, you can start applications on the VM, in addition, you do not need to click, directly use the direction key to select, and press enter to open. Ctrl + shift + u is the shortcut key to start a new application in unity mode.

4. Add a user to sudo

Centos does not place users created during installation in sudo as ubuntu does. Therefore, we need to do this manually. Switch su root to the root account, vim/etc/sudoers, find "root ALL = (ALL) ALL", and add a line after it: "<Account Name> ALL = (ALL) ALL ", and then: wq! Save the changes (because the file is read-only, add !). Log out of your account and log in again.

So far, we can basically use centos like ubuntu.
