December 20 News, according to foreign media reports, IBM announced in Thursday, will acquire the privatization of large file transfer technology company Aspera. However, details of the transaction between the two companies were not disclosed.
IBM says Aspera's file transfer technology will be a key component of the company's future big Data strategy.
Aspera's technology allows larger-scale document data to be transmitted at a faster rate--such as it typically takes 26 hours to transfer a 24GB document to the other end of the world, and Aspera can do it in 30 seconds. Aspera its technology to fasp, which is designed to address the bottleneck of the current broadband network. Aspera current customers also include video service providers such as Netflix and Universal Studios.
Similar to IBM's other acquisitions, the blue giant's goal is to acquire ASPERA technology and incorporate it into its product sales channels. The main areas of aspera technology include life sciences, media companies and gaming industries, which are basically modest with IBM's market targets.
IBM expects the deal to be completed in the first quarter of next year.
