According to Reuters, Intel's manufacturing director and new chief Operating Officer (COO) Brian Krzanich claim to have adjusted the company's supply chain for smartphones and tablet manufacturers, shortening the supply chain turnaround period to meet the highly fragmented needs of mobile device manufacturers.
"We will begin to see more and more of Intel's capacity and output capabilities to be used on mobile devices, including mobile phones, tablets and other devices." Krzanich said he was also in charge of the IT and HR departments. Intel is expected to make more adjustments in 2012, with a capital expenditure budget of $12.5 billion trillion.
With too much lag behind Apple, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments on mobile device chips, Intel is stepping up its research and manufacturing of mobile chips. With the advent of Medfield chips and the start of being used by some handsets, Intel has also stepped up its march into the mobile chip market.
Krzanich, who has worked for nearly 30 years at Intel, has been appointed COO, hoping to bring speed and flexibility to Intel's mobile chip makers in a bid to occupy a niche in the new mobile Internet battlefield.
