This chapter gives you an idea of how to use Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to install your Oracle database software and create a database. You will learn how to create an additional database using Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA).

Installing software using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI)

You can use Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to install your Oracle software. OUI is a GUI tool that allows you to view Oracle software installed on your machine, install new Oracle software, and remove Oracle software that you no longer need to use.



Follow these steps to install Oracle software and create a database:
1.
Log on to your computer as an administrative group group with permissions to install Oracle software and create and run databases.


2.
Insert the CD that is provided to you into the optical drive. The Autorun window is automatically displayed. Choose Install/deinstall Products.

Note: If you are downloading software from the Oracle site, follow the instructions posted on the website.

Oracle Universal Installer Welcome window appears. Select Next to start installing your software

Specify Inventory directory and credentials windows appear during UNIX and Linux installations. Enter the full directory where the Oracle software is installed or accept the default values. Enter the operating system group name, which has directory write permissions. Click Next. Click OK.




5.
The dialog box appears.





Open a new terminal window, log in as root, and run the orainstroot.sh script as instructed by the dialog box. When the script completes, return to the Oracle Universal Installer page and click Continue.




6.
The Specify File locations window appears. Enter the full directory where the Oracle software is installed or accept the default values. Click Next.




7.
The Select Installation Type page appears. Also choose an enterprise or standard version that is appropriate for your environment. Click Next.




8.
Installer will confirm that your system meets the minimum requirements for installing and configuring the selected product. Correct and report the problem before continuing. Click Next.






9.
The Select Database Configuration page appears. The type of the start database is selected as general purpose, Transaction processing, or Data Warehouse. Click Next.






10.
The Specify Database Configuration Options page appears. Enter the Global database Name and SID in the Database naming section. Select the character set in the Database Character set section. Select the Create database with sample Schemas installation sample mode. Click Next.




11.
The Select Database Management Option page appears. Select Use database control for database Management. Click Next.




12.
The Specify Database File Storage Option page appears. Select the File System, Automatic Storage Management, or raw Devices that is appropriate for your environment. Click Next.




13.
The Specify Backup and Recovery Options page appears. Select Do not enable automated backups Configure your own backup schedule. Click Next.




14.
The Specify Database Schema passwords page appears. Select Use different passwords for these accounts and enter the administrator password or select Use the same password to all accounts and enter the password. Click Next.




15.
The Summary page appears, containing a list of products to be installed. Click Install to start the installation.




16.
You will see the progress window.

The Configuration Assistants page appears. Allow Configuration assistants execution. They configure your network, start the Oracle Net Services Listener process for domain database connections, create databases, and configure management tools.

A page appears showing the progress bar of the database creation.




19.
When the database is created, the page that contains your database information appears. View this list. If you want to remove or change the password for the database account, you can click Password Management at the top of the page. then click OK.

The dialog box appears.





Open a new terminal window, log in as root and run the root.sh script. When the script completes, return to the Oracle Universal Installer page and click OK.




21st.
The end of Installation page appears, which contains important information about the WEB application port number.




22.
Click Yes to exit.

You have completed the installation of Oracle software and the creation of databases.


Use database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) to create databases

If the value chooses to install the software and then create the database, or if you want the software you just installed to create an additional database, you can do so using the database Configuration Assistant (DBCA).

Follow the steps below to create a database:
1.
Log on to your computer as an administrative group group with permissions to install Oracle software and create and run databases.

Start DBCA When you are on the Windows operating system as follows:

Start > Programs > Oracle-home_name > Configuration and Migration Tools > Database Configuration Assistant

At the prompt, enter the following command to start the DBCA on the UNIX operating system:

Dbca

The Welcome page appears. Click Next.




4.
Select Create a database in the Operations window and start a survey that allows you to configure and create databases. Click Next.




5.
On the Database Templates page, select the type of template you want to use to create the database. You can click Show Details to view the configuration for each type of database. Select the template that is appropriate for the type of workload that your database will support. If you are unsure, select the default general purpose template. Click Next.




6.
On the Database Identification page, enter the Global Database Name and SID. Click Next.




7.
The Management Options page appears. To use Enterprise Manager, select Configure the Database with Enterprise Manager. Select the use database control-for database Management to manage your database locally or select the using Grid control for database Management that is appropriate for your configuration. Click Next.






8.
Enter the user's password. Click Next.




9.
Select the File System, Automatic Storage Management, or raw Devices that is appropriate for your environment. Click Next.




10.
Specifies the location where the datafiles is created. Select one: Use Database File locations from Template, use Common Location to all Database files or use oracle-managed files. Click Next.




11.
Select the Flash Recovery area and specify the directory location and size. Select Enable archiving to place your database in Archivelog mode. Click Next.




12.
Click the Sample Schemas tab. If you want to include sample mode (EXAMPLE) tablespace in your database, select Sample Schemas. Click the Custom Scripts tab.




13.
If necessary, after creating the database, specify one or more SQL scripts to run. Otherwise, accept the default No scripts to run. Click Next.




14.
The Memory page appears. Select Typical and enter a percent value. Click the Sizing tab.




15.
The sizing page appears. Specifies the minimum block space that can be connected to the database at the same time and the number of operating system user processes.

Note: If you use a template, you cannot specify the size of the block.

Click the Character Set tab.




16.
The Character Set page appears. Select the character set for your database. Click the Connection Mode tab.




17.
The Connection Mode page appears. Also choose a dedicated server or shared server that is appropriate for your environment. Click Next.




18.
The Database Storage page appears. Accept the configuration or make changes as needed. Click Next.




19.
Select Create database to build your databases. You may also choose to save as a Database Template your configuration. Click Finish.




20.
In the confirmation window, confirm the options that will be installed and click OK.




21st.
Your database is created.




22.
After the database is created, you can change or remove your password or click Exit.
