Modify the logical file name in the SQL Server database

You can use the file_name function to return the logical File Name of the specified file ID.

As follows:

In the following example, the file name (master database file) with file_id 1 is returned ).

Use Master
Select   File_name ( 1 )

When we restore the database from a backup, the logical File Name of the database will not change.

The alter database Modify file clause can be used as an alternative to change the logical name of a data file or log file.

Alter   Database Database Name
Modify File (
Name = Logical name
, Newname = New logic name
)

In fact, the preceding statement changes the name field in sysfiles and sysfiles1 system tables.
