I wanted to experiment with two switches, but after entering one of the switches through the console port, I found that the iOS file of the exchanger was missing.

Should normally enter the switch after the first into the user mode, and the prompt should be ">", and now the prompt has become ":",

This is the equivalent of a computer without the operating system, all the hardware into a heap of scrap metal, no practical use, so now to do is to restore the switch iOS files

But I do not have a ready-made switch on the iOS file, how to do it

There is a way, I now have two switches, and two switch models are the same (all 2950), why not the other switch iOS first copied out?

OK, get to work.

The first step is to extract the iOS from a switch

First, the serial port of the PC and the console port of the iOS file switch are connected, and the FA0/1 port of the switch is connected with the network card of the PC.

After using HyperTerminal to enter the switch, create an IP address for VLAN 1 192.168.12.1

(The FA0/1 port is under VLAN 1 by default)

Then set the PC's NIC IP to 192.168.12.2 and open the TFTP service

First use the switch to ping the PC to see if they can communicate properly, as shown in the switch and the PC to communicate properly

The next step is to copy the switch's iOS files to the PC via TFPT

For example, first enter copy flash:? Enter

To view the iOS file name, the selected part of the figure is the name of the iOS file

So the complete copy command is: Copy flash:c2950-i6q412-mz.121-9.ea1.bin tftp: Enter

When prompted to enter the IP address, then enter the IP address of the PC: 192.168.12.2 Enter

When prompted to enter a copy of the file name, let him default OK, directly enter, such as

Now the switch's iOS file has been copied to the PC.

At the same time, the TFTP on the PC also reflects

OK, the copy is complete, now on the PC can find the copied iOS files, such as

The first part of this is done.

The next thing to do is copy the iOS file on the PC to the switch on the lost iOS file.

The second step begins the official recovery of iOS

The first is to switch the console line directly to the other switch's console port, the network cable can not be used

Then turn off the power of this switch, press and hold the mode key on the switch panel to not release, while switching on the switch power, waiting for the switch to appear flash_init,load_helper,boot while entering the command mode, you can release the mode key to start the input command,

First enter Flash_init carriage return

The prompt that appears as

In the input load_helper carriage return

No prompt content after input

The following can be done by Xmodem to restore iOS, input such as command

If a large "C" letter appears, you can start transferring the file.

Click Super Terminal Transfer-send file

In the pop-up dialog box, select the path of the iOS on the PC, select Xmodem, click Send To start the transfer

The following is the beginning of the transmission, look at the remaining time, I go,, the remaining 56 minutes, slowly wait for it, blow air conditioning drink a cup of tea

Wait, like, one hours, and then we're done.

Well, finally passed, at the command prompt, has been prompted to copy successfully

Then enter the boot command to reload the iOS file

After a long list of commands, you can see that the switch is working properly.

Use the show flash command to view iOS files

The rest of the configuration on their own slowly, the recovery of iOS files to this end of the actual process,,,
