Since the early 80, AMD's processors have adhered to the x86 architecture invented by Intel. But the company said in Tuesday that the company's first server processor with an ARM architecture had begun testing.

The arm-architecture processor is now widely used by smartphones and tablet computers. Like many of the other companies that plan to launch the ARM Architecture server processor, AMD's introduction of the first ARM architecture product logic is that their low cost and low ability can produce huge economic effects. But for x86 loyalists like AMD, embracing the arm architecture really shocked the markets.

Andrew http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/39634.html "> Friedman, who is responsible for the ARM architecture server processor development work, said that by the year 2019, AMD will not only be a processor manufacturer of ARM architecture, the company will become the industry leader. In the coming weeks, AMD will send samples of the ARM architecture server processor to customers, Friedman said. AMD's ARM architecture would be a 8-core processor, he said, but he did not disclose when the product would be available and its final selling price.

AMD is not alone, and many chip design companies are also developing server chips based on ARM architecture. Forrest Norrod, head of Dell's server department, Forrest Nolod last May that 14 companies are developing the chips and they want to challenge Intel's dominance in the data center.

Similar initiatives have long been seen as a potential threat to intel. Currently, Intel still dominates the server processor market. Intel is dismissive of the concept of ARM architecture server processors and believes that server manufacturers will never be able to transform technology on a large scale. However, Intel is also speeding up the development of more energy-efficient server processors, which use Intel's mobile processor design for portable computers.

Frank Frankovsky, chairman and president of the Frank Frankowski Open Computing Foundation, said he had been very optimistic about the market outlook for ARM Architecture server processors. Frankowski expects the product to enter the company's data center by the end of the year and will begin a wide adoption in 2015. Because of economies of scale and dominance of the mobile device market, the ARM architecture server processor is expected to occupy 25% of the server market by 2019.
