According to a report published last year by McKinsey consultancy, the US faces a 140,000 to 190,000 talent gap in "in-depth analysis of talent" by 2018, and a 1.5 million talent gap in "being able to analyze data to help companies make business decisions".

Market watchers say a large number of companies are now looking for people with comprehensive skills to tap into the competitive advantage of big data. Jack Phillips, chief executive of the Institute for International Data Analysis (IIA), said: "The number one business requirement is to recruit people who can gain a competitive advantage through the use and analysis of data." There is no doubt about that. ”

So what does "big data talent" mean? What kind of skills do they need? What kind of educational background do people who work in large numbers need? To this end, the American computer World website has an exclusive interview with an outstanding representative in this emerging field.

Sandeep Sacheti, who once served as business risk and analysis director at UBS Wealth Management, said: "There is no uniform definition of ' big Data professionals '." "At present, Sacheti has moved to Wei Ke group, and served as Vice president of Customer insight and operation performance of the group's corporate legal services company."

Sacheti's new position is all about Big data: Use analytics to understand customers, develop new products, and cut operating costs. In one of his projects, the group, which provides electronic billing services for law firms, is using analytical methods to tap data collected from Customers (licensed) to develop new products.

To deal with these big data jobs, Sacheti is currently taking a two-pronged approach to recruiting talent from outside and training in-house staff. He divided large data positions according to four sets of skills: data scientists, data architects, data visualization personnel, and data-tuning agents.

Since different people use different skills, there is currently no standard title for these positions. John Reed, senior executive director of Robert Half Marvell, said the same position might be called a data analyst in a company, but it might not be called a data analyst in another company. Some of the titles of large data posts are like those given by Sacheti, and there is no word "big" or "data" in the title.

Phillips says there are already companies seeking help from the IIA in order to recruit large data personnel. First, they ask where they can find such talent. "Then they would stop the conversation and ask, ' Wait a minute, how do I know what I'm looking for? '"

Talent Analytics CEO Greta Roberts said: "Everyone will ask, how do you identify these people? What skills do you focus on? What kind of degree do they need?"

Phillips and Roberts both say that the skills involved in big data jobs include math, statistics, data analysis, Business Analytics and natural language processing. Although no agreement has yet been reached, jobs such as data scientists and data architects have come to the consensus.
