On the 25th Hong Kong Book Fair held by Xinhua News Agency in Hong Kong, the e-reading exhibition area has attracted many young people to stop there. With the increasing popularity of the Internet and mobile communications devices, many publishers worry that young people will therefore fall into a "shallow reading" cycle. Some publishers also believe that they should seize the opportunity to accelerate their transformation and seize the opportunities in the e-book market.
Electronic Reading in the Internet Age
In June this year, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups visited 522 local residents aged between 10 and 24. The survey results show that the majority of respondents have experience using electronic products for reading, of which 75% are read on smartphones, followed by desktops and tablets. Almost half of the respondents said the reason for conducting electronic reading is "easy to carry."
The survey also pointed out that respondents spend an average of 86 minutes per person per day for electronic reading. Most people think that "free download" is the best reason to promote them to e-reading, followed by "the download process is simple."
As young people become "thumbs", world wide book publishing consultant Yan Chun hook expressed concern: "Now 3-year-olds began to play iPad, young people are most of the time on the social network, more than 500 words are articles Too long, this fragmented reading, it is difficult to enhance their ability to think of the system.
Yen Chun Hook told reporters that in the past two years, the overall sales of paper books in Hong Kong have shown a clear downward trend. However, it needs to be emphasized that this is not simply an impact of technological development. More importantly, there are fewer people who have the habit of reading books.
A recent survey by the Hong Kong New Readings Society confirmed Yan Chun's views. According to the survey results, nearly 60% of the interviewed Hong Kong residents did not have any reading habits and each person read an average of 1.7 books in the past six months.
