Facebook is a social networking site. It was launched on February 4, 2004.

Facebook's founder is Mark Zuckerberg, a Harvard student who graduated from Asdsley High School. Initially, the website was registered only to students at Harvard College (the undergraduate section of Harvard University). Within the next two months, the register extended to other universities in the Boston area (Boston College Boston Eton, Boston University Boston University, mit mit, Tofforts University Tufts) and Rochester University Rochester, Stanford Stanford, New York University NYU, Northwestern University and all Ivy League schools.

The following year, many other schools were also joined in. Eventually, there is a university-wide email address (e.g. Edu,. ac.uk, etc.) that can be registered worldwide. Later, a social network of high schools and companies can be built on Facebook. And from September 11, 2006 onwards, any user entered a valid e-mail address and his age, you can join. Users can choose to join one or more networks, such as secondary, corporate, or regional.

According to the July 2007 data, Facebook has the largest number of users: 34 million active users (including users on non-university networks) in all the websites that serve university students as their main business. From September 2006 to September 2007, the site rose from 60th Place to 7th place on the entire U.S. website. Facebook is the number one photo-sharing site in the United States, uploading 8.5 million photos a day. This is even more than other dedicated photo sharing sites, such as Flickr.

The name of the website Facebook comes from the traditional paper "roster". American universities and prep schools usually distribute the "roster" of all members of the school community to new students and faculty to help people know the rest of the school.

At the beginning of 2008, Facebook had surpassed MySpace as the world's largest community site.

Facebook has also launched a new form of advertising to "participate in advertising," hoping to win the hearts of advertisers.

"Participation in advertising" is a new form of advertising services, which makes the boundaries between marketing sites and social networking sites become more blurred. When a user logs on to Facebook for the first time, the ad is displayed on the main screen and prompts the user to operate in the ad, such as commenting on a movie promo.

After the user completes the operation, by adding Bravo TV's TV series "Project Runway" to the personal events list, Facebook can spread the ads of Bravo TV to more users by sharing the message.

It remains to be seen whether the ad model will work, but Facebook says 70 of the country's top 100 advertisers have already put ads on Facebook since 2007. Facebook's share of the advertising market in the US is only 1.1%, according to comscore, a research institute.

"I've never heard of people posting ads on Facebook, and I don't spend my advertising budget on Facebook," Angie Tulgetske, an industry expert, said Taquitesco. "Facebook is in the midst of a downturn in the online advertising market, with the U.S. Interactive Advertising Agency (IAB) data showing that U.S. Internet advertising will drop to 14.5% next year from 17% this year.

For social networking sites, the impact is greater because advertisers are still exploring the effectiveness of advertising on social networking sites. But the advantage of social networking sites such as Faceboo and MySpace is that it has lower ad prices than other media sites like Yahoo and AOL.

From the user's point of view, not all users support Facebook's "participate in advertising" program. Heather Watson, a 32-year-old Tennessee user, said: "' participation in advertising ' affects Facebook's user experience and I will not participate in the project." ”
