Cloud computing is not a simple product, nor is it a simple technology, but a new way of generating and acquiring computing power. Cloud computing is both a computing and storage platform that can be dynamically provided, configured, and canceled as needed, and a type of application service that can be accessed over the Internet.

The advent of cloud computing will have a significant impact on it application and deployment patterns, and business models. Users can enjoy the various IT services they want only if they have an Internet terminal. Traditional PC and server-centric application patterns will change dramatically.

The dawning of the economic recovery, the aging server-installed base, and the need for IT managers to control the demands of increasingly complex virtual and physical infrastructures drive demand for public and private cloud computing. According to the latest research from IDC, the Market Research Institute, Server revenue for public cloud computing will grow from $582 million trillion in 2009 to $718 million trillion in 2014, while server revenue for a relatively large private cloud computing market will grow from 7.3 billion dollars in 2009 to $11.8 billion in 2014.

"Now is the best time for many IT organizations to seriously consider this technology, deploy public clouds and private clouds to simplify the ever-expanding IT environment," said Katherine Broderick, an analyst at IDC's Enterprise platform and data center trends. ”

The advent of cloud computing will also make a huge difference in the existing it ecosystem, and each role will reposition and function differently. In the ecosystem of cloud computing, there are three core roles, users, providers, and builders. Users are the end users of a variety of cloud computing services, includes individual consumers, government, education, and corporate customers; providers are providers of various cloud computing services, including SaaS (software as a service), PaaS (Platform-as-service) and IaaS (infrastructure-services) three providers; Builders are providers of various basic resources, solutions, and services for providers.

IDC defines a public cloud as an open environment for potential users, rather than individual enterprises, that are fundamentally unrestricted. Private cloud deployment is for a single enterprise (or extended enterprise) and has access restrictions, it is an internal shared resources, rather than a commercial product, it organizations for their users is a shared/Standard service "vendor." "Many vendors are strategically moving toward private cloud and public cloud, and they are very different and have varying degrees of commitment," says Broderick. ”

Other findings from the IDC study also include:

-Asvs of public cloud computing is lower than normal x86 server

-Public clouds seem less popular than private clouds

-Corporate focus on private cloud is higher than public cloud

-Nearly half of respondents (44%) will consider private clouds, according to IDC Research

Today, almost all the leading it providers, Internet providers, and even telecoms operators are moving to cloud computing, providing relevant cloud services. However, the current cloud providers can be grouped into three broad categories, namely, SaaS providers, PAAs providers, and IaaS providers.

1. SaaS (software as service)

SaaS (software as a service) refers to a new form of user access to software services. It does not require a user to install a software PRODUCT on its own computer or server, but to obtain a service of its own, with the appropriate software functionality, directly through the network to a dedicated provider through a service level agreement (SLA). In essence, software as a service is the computing power of software service providers to provide their consumers with a specific demand.

2. PaaS (Platform as service)

PaaS (Platform as a service) refers to a complete computer platform, including application design, application development, application testing and application hosting, as a service to customers. In this service model, customers do not need to purchase hardware and software, only to take advantage of the PAAs platform, can create, test and deploy applications and services, and based on the data center platform for Software development than the cost is much lower, this is the most valuable PAAs.

3, IaaS (infrastructure services)

IaaS (infrastructure as a service) means that the enterprise or individual can use cloud computing technology to remotely access computing resources, including computing, storage, and the related functionality provided by applying virtualization technologies. Whether end-users, SaaS providers, or PAAs providers can derive the computing power required for applications from infrastructure services, there is no need to pay the original cost of the underlying it hardware and software that supports this computing capability.

With Microsoft, Amazon, and other providers offering storage services and virtual servers to provide this hardware-based IaaS service, they have pooled memory, I/O devices, storage, and computing power into a virtual pool of resources through cloud computing technologies to end users and SaaS , PAAs provider services.
