After acquiring a company that specializes in http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/17183.html "> helps customers manage resources across multiple public clouds, Dell says it is" readjusting " Its plan to build a public cloud based on OpenStack.

Over the past year, Dell has said it plans to build a public cloud based on open source cloud computing platform OpenStack, a full member of the OpenStack project. But the company's recent moves have had an impact on its cloud plans, including the OpenStack public cloud.

Just this month, Dell bought Enstratius, a company that specializes in managing resources across multiple cloud computing platforms. Dell has also recently established a partnership with Onapp, Onapp to create a platform for businesses to launch their own public cloud services. Coupled with a potential takeover that could privatize Dell, some of the moves within the company have been somewhat volatile. Given this uncertainty, some members of the company's team dedicated to building the OpenStack public Cloud recently left the company.

A Dell spokeswoman said the company would release more information on its cloud strategy in the coming weeks. "Based on the recent acquisition of Enstratius, Dell is now readjusting its cloud strategy," he said. ”

Dell's OpenStack Public cloud program is somewhat unstable, with reports that Dell's public cloud is in beta, but the recent departure of several employees has made some think the project is in jeopardy.

Earlier this year, Dell's cloud-computing spokeswoman said the company was waiting for the OpenStack project to mature, with its public cloud at least ready by the end of 2013. If Dell really decides to implement its OpenStack public cloud program, it will join HP and Rackspace as High-tech vendors to support the OpenStack public cloud.

Over the past two years, Dell has been dedicated to OpenStack projects and has focused a lot of effort on creating a way for customers to launch private clouds within their enterprise-by using Dell servers, OpenStack software releases from Ubuntu, and Dell management software Crobar to deploy services. There is no indication that Dell is cutting its plans to openstack private cloud solutions. Dell is still an active member of the OpenStack project, and one of Dell's employees is currently a member of the OpenStack Foundation board.

Dell already has an infrastructure, service (IaaS) public cloud product, based on VMware's Vcloud, a multi-tenant cloud hosting product. The OpenStack public cloud is being developed as a complementary product to the company's VMware Cloud.

Strategy Analytics, analyst Mark Levitt, says many of Dell's internal initiatives are still uncertain based on the company's potential acquisitions and privatisation plans. Some aspects of the Dell strategy have been successful, such as The Dell Boomi cloud-focused on consolidation between private and cloud resources, but any new initiatives need to be examined very carefully. Since OpenStack is still a developing technology, Dell may take a more conservative approach.

Krishnan Subramanian, an analyst at Rishidot Research, said that if Dell abandoned its plan to establish a OpenStack public cloud, we would hear more discussion of Dell's strategy rather than comment on OpenStack, "It's all Dell's internal issues, Rather than the problem of this platform. ”
