Gartner says the number of IoT devices will increase to 4.9 billion in 2015

With the spread of the sensor interconnect in the Internet of things, consultancy Gartner predicts that the increase in interconnection will reach 30% per cent this year and tomorrow. In a forecast released today, analysts said the number of IoT devices would soar from 3.8 billion to 4.9 billion by 2015.

Analysts predict that the popularity of sensors will greatly accelerate the development of intelligent equipment, production progress. By 2020, about 25 billion smart devices will appear in the global marketplace. In other words, the car breathing monitoring seat is not far from you.

Simple numbers can explain the problem, according to IDC, the number of personal smartphone shipments at the beginning of the year for the first time more than 1 billion. Compared to smartphones, the device is simpler and less expensive, and its size should grow faster than smartphones.

The company also pointed out that in the vertical area, the use of the most common equipment in the fields of manufacturing, utilities and transport, these areas will be a strong impetus to the development of the Internet of things in the next year. According to Gartner, the three areas will have a total of 736 million items of equipment.

By 2020, the rankings will change: the public sector will be the first (thanks to investment smart meters), manufacturing and government departments two or three, a total of 1.7 billion equipment. Government departments to the third place are mainly benefited from intelligent street lights and regional lighting (for energy-saving purposes) of the expected investment.

Gartner believes that the internet of things and digital acceleration technologies like cloud, mobile and social networking will pose a risk to many current businesses. It also says companies will accept the device as if they have to accept it as a consumer.
