With the development of Internet data centers and cloud computing, the planning, design, construction and verification of data centers become increasingly indispensable. There is a general focus on the planning, design, and construction of data centers, often ignoring the validation phase. So what is Data center validation? What is the value to the customer? With this in doubt, ZDNet reporter interviewed Mr. Brian Whelan, Global operations director of key facilities services at HP's Technical Services Division, Mr. Zhang Yonghai, general manager of key Facilities Services Division of China Hewlett-Packard Co., Ltd. and Mr. Kohai, senior Advisor of key facilities services, HP Technical Services Division, China.

Mr. Brian Whelan, Global operations director of key facilities services at HP's Technical Services Division

Mr. Brian has been working in key facilities for more than 12 years and has accumulated a wealth of experience. Hewlett-Packard's key facilities service was formerly a large data center engineering consultancy in New York and was bought by HP in 2008, he said. HP bought the company because HP believes it can meet a range of services for future integration of IT infrastructure and data centers.

It is reported that Hewlett-Packard key facilities services are currently serving the global, employees around the world, creating a multiple-level data center hybrid design, is a flexible data center creators, and in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific region designed and validated millions of square feet of data centers. This series of initiatives has made it a recognized leader in the industry.

The reporter learned that HP's key facilities Services (CFS) department has planned, designed, implemented and validated more than 500 new and reconstructed data center projects over the past 4 years. Consulting services in more than 30 countries around the world, the first T4-level data center was designed in several regions, and the EU developed data center specifications and developed the industry's First Data center software tool for energy efficiency assessment.

HP's key facility services have 5 service categories, including key facility consulting, key facility design, key facility implementation, key facility validation, and energy and sustainability management. There is a need to explain key facility validation services, which are validated by experienced experts in many industries to test new data centers to be deployed, through the construction of on-site test platforms, using fault simulations and similar to full IT operations simulations, be committed to validating and improving the ability to meet immediate and long-term operational goals.

Mr Brian argues that the current data centers are becoming more complex and that the corresponding simplification of it tools is becoming richer. For example, starting with the data center design phase, you can simplify the deployment process with a modular datacenter such as the Performance Tuning Data Center (POD), and standardize your components to facilitate future management. This is the first trend in the global evolution of data centers: standardization and simplification. Data Center validation, on the other hand, will be the second trend. He said that data center validation includes several levels: 1, new data center testing and trial operations, 2, the existing data center testing, evaluation. It is revealed that the data center per hour of downtime, will face huge data and economic losses. So data center validation is very important.

Third, data center management, in integrating it facilities and the electromechanical infrastructure of the data center, Brian thinks that the mistake people make is too large or too small to estimate the energy consumption or management difficulty of the datacenter. This creates a lot of additional management costs and reduces efficiency.

He also noted that a trend today is the outsourcing of data center management, where low-value, low impact jobs are outsourced first, and some of the core business remains in the enterprise. Second, high value and cyclical demand work is also beginning to outsource the trend. This allows professional things to be done as much as possible to professional teams, and IT teams can have more experience running and improving the increasingly complex data center infrastructure.

Mr. Brian concludes that data center design and time are becoming more standardized, and that testing new data centers for performance deficiencies in accordance with the IT equipment testing process is the key value of the critical facilities service sector. Using new technologies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the efficiency of data center operations are the driving forces that they are always doing and helping their customers.
