Huawei launches new series of Tablet PC MediaPad

"MediaPad uses a 7-inch screen to run Google's Android Honeycomb 3.2 operating system," Xu, chief marketing officer at Huawei's Terminal business unit, said at a news conference. Huawei is expanding its smartphone and tablet operations as demand for traditional mobile-phone devices declines.  Huawei said in April this year that by expanding consumer and business computing services, Huawei expects sales to increase by twice to about $100 billion trillion over the next 5 to 10 years.  Apple is currently dominant in the global tablet market, but research firm Isuppli said in April this year that Apple's tablet market share will drop to 50% from almost 100% a year ago, thanks to growing competition in the market. Huawei released its Ideos S7 series of tablets last October, based on a 7-inch display, running the Android operating system, which has been listed in Europe and Asia.  The release of the MediaPad will also be launched worldwide, battery time can exceed 6 hours. Huawei's global Tablet PC shipments market share was 1% in the first quarter of this year, according to Strategy Analytics, a london-based research firm.  Strategy Analytics Analyst Nier Moston (Neil Mawston) said Huawei needs to raise its brand awareness in the computing equipment market to boost tablet shipments. Huawei predicted in April that sales would reach 199 billion yuan a year (about $31 billion trillion) from 185.2 billion trillion yuan last year. Huawei's sales this year will be less than half its 24% last year, influenced by a revaluation of the renminbi, labor shortages and accelerated inflation.  Huawei also expects revenue from the company's smartphone and other mobile devices to increase from $5 billion trillion last year to $20 billion trillion over the next five years. Huawei's 65% per cent revenue last year came from overseas markets, compared with 60% in 2009. Huawei's overseas revenue last year was 120.4 billion yuan, an increase of 34% per cent. and domestic revenue for 64.8 billion yuan, an increase of 9.7% per cent, the 2009 domestic revenue ratio of Huawei 40%. Last year, Huawei's net income was 23.8 billion yuan, an increase of 30%. (Li Ming)
