However, from a year-round point of view, 2009 mobile phone shipments are lower than the 2007 and 2008 shipments. Samsung's mobile phone shipments in the fourth quarter of last year were 68.8 million. In developed markets, Samsung pays attention to smartphone development, and in emerging markets, Samsung focuses on adapting to local user needs, expanding sales channels and building business.  Although Samsung still lags far behind Nokia, it has widened the gap with LG Electronics.  LG Electronics shipped 33.9 million in the fourth quarter of last year, but operating margins dropped sharply from 8.4% to 1.3%, indicating a drop in average handset sales and increased marketing costs. Sony Ericsson lost its sixth consecutive quarter in the fourth quarter of last year. However, from a full-year perspective, the company's profit margin rose from 15% to 23%, mainly thanks to the company's launch of a new High-margin handset product.  Sony Ericsson's handset shipments in the fourth quarter of last year were 14.6 million, the highest quarterly mobile phone shipments in a year. Motorola's mobile phone shipments in the fourth quarter of last year fell year-on-year for the 12th consecutive quarter, but last year's fourth quarter was the least year-on-year decline since the first half of 2008.
