Ubuntu is about to enter the mobile operating system, a complex ecosystem. Creating a new mobile platform is not just about wooing developers (Ubuntu has its own batch of developers), but more importantly how to work with device manufacturers and mobile operators. The stakes involved are complex, as can be seen from the Android ecosystem. The mobile version of Ubuntu will not be available in the near future.

ZDNet in an interview with Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth that it is expected that Ubuntu's mobile device will not be available until 2014 years. In other words, Ubuntu has a lot of work to do in more than two years from now. The article also points out that Ubuntu has not even launched an alpha version of the mobile operating system, which means developers cannot get to know the system first, and no developer community can discuss the problem.

But there are many things that could happen in the past two years, such as Apple's likely weakness in post-jobs times, and Nokia's partnering with Microsoft to create its own Windows Phone niche, and of course Android and BlackBerry, which is, in short, a vibrant area.

For Ubuntu, the longer the product moves, the higher the threshold for entry into the field. However, the development of Android can also be seen (Google bought Android in 2005 until the launch of G1 in 2008) a mobile platform with a good UI interface and cool product design will be supported by handset manufacturers and operators to set off the perfect storm in a short time. Ubuntu needs to learn from the Android experience, on the one hand, to obtain the support of manufacturers and operators to build a good business system, not just open source code.

No longer needs to move in its way, the higher the barrier into a successful platform. However, if we look up a robot, a good mobile platform with polished user interface and cooling device to original equipment manufacturers and operators has the opportunity to create huge waves in a short time. Android has Google and the Open Handset Alliance to push the higher altitude. Specifications will need to create the same type of support infrastructure, because commercial viability will not just release the source code to open the ecosystem.

The mobile operating system is a pattern of both iOS and Android, while other operating systems are grabbing the market space. After Google's takeover of Motorola, HTC, Samsung, LG and other manufacturers were temporarily allied with envy and resentment, giving Ubuntu and other operating systems an opportunity, but ultimately, the UI and the ecosystem of applications were the defining foundation.

Does the business run in 2014, and does Ubuntu still have a chance? Or will the mobile version of Ubuntu continue its geek positioning on the PC side? It is too early to discuss this, and Ubuntu will naturally make the best choice under the influence of the invisible hand of the market.
