"Warning: Do not assume that your business process is using master data," The 2009 study notes: "Synchronize your business processes with master data policies", from Forrester Research's Rob Karel, Clay Richardson, Connie Moore and Charles Coit emphasized the importance of integrated business processes and data governance. Some companies are starting to create and manage their own data and processes individually, but consolidating them will bring a lot of value. This paper maps the data governance strategy to a simple process to monitor oil field sensor data.
Figure 1 depicts this process of managing oil field sensor data, including key activities and milestones. The milestones and activities are described in table 1.

Order Milestone/Activity Description 1. Sensor installation oil and gas companies have installed sensors on their facilities and seabed to monitor compliance with production conditions, facility status, health, operational safety, and environmental regulations. These sensor control systems often support the OLE Process Control (OPC) protocol, a standard for specifying real-time factory data communication between monitoring control and data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for different manufacturers. 1.1 Installing sensors on a facility the modern petroleum facility may have installed more than 30,000 sensors, capturing multiple types of real-time large data in the exploration process, such as flow rate, RPM, voltage, power, temperature and pressure. 1.2 Installing sensors on the seabed the companies may also need to install sensors on the seabed to monitor environmental conditions such as velocity, temperature and turbidity. Turbidity is an indicator of water turbidity that is based on particles that are not visible to the naked eye. 2. Production monitoring companies need to monitor oil and gas production conditions. Oil companies, as operators, also need to calculate the production ration of each facility owner. 2.1 Production conditions on monitoring facilities operators have installed monitors to monitor oil and gas production at various facilities. 2.2 Create a production dashboard oil and gas companies also need to create dashboards to monitor energy production on each facility. Oil and gas companies have created common operations centers to monitor production from a central location. 3. Equipment monitoring Some facilities use sensors to monitor equipment. 3.1 The equipment Operation Department of the Monitoring facility will monitor the pumps and valves on each rig. Typical questions include "How long is it expected to fail if a given brand of turbines starts to vibrate in this way that is now detected?" "3.2 Preventive Maintenance if the predictive model indicates that a particular device in a certain part may fail, then the operator should implement the appropriate preventative maintenance." 4. Environmental monitoring oil and gas companies need to use a number of sensors to achieve environmental monitoring. 4.1 The seabed environment sensor around the monitoring facility may need to remain operational in the early, medium and late stages of the platform's use. 4.2 Long-term monitoring of environmental pollution enterprises need to answer such a question, "the water quality around the facility can the salinity and turbidity indicate an oil spill?" ”

Table 1. Milestones and activities related to monitoring oil field sensor data

Table 2 summarizes key data governance strategies related to the management of oil field sensor data.

Order milestone/Activity large data governance strategy 1.1 installing sensors on a facility the data governance plan should be combined with enterprise security to ensure that the SCADA system is properly protected against possible cyber attacks. The discussion is not a recent academic discussion on cyber attacks on work infrastructure, such as the Stuxnet worm. 2.2 Create a production dashboard data governance plan needs to ensure consistency of business terms within the production report. In addition to "original Well", "completion", "drilling" and "drilling completion" and other sub-clauses, the key business provisions include "well". The data governance plan should make full use of the standard models, such as the professional oil Data (PPDM) association model used for minefield data and definitions. 3.1 Equipment on the monitoring facility in the past, a drilling device may contain about 1,000 sensors, and due to capacity constraints, only about 10 of the source databases will be purged weekly. Today, oil and gas companies need to keep sensor data for a longer period of time. For example, the health, safety, and Environment (HSE) departments may need to use old information for three months to recreate the view to see why specific decisions are made for the oilfields. The data governance plan should use a number of standard models, such as for systems and equipment on oil and gas production facilities and ISO 15926 for related definitions. The data governance plan also needs to play a key role in determining the amount of information to be saved and the length of time to meet internal requirements and regulatory compliance requirements. Also, be aware that drilling equipment generates a large amount of unstructured information, such as video, pictures, and sounds. 3.2 Preventive Maintenance If a particular type of equipment on a drilling device fails, the oil company must quickly and accurately indicate where the same device can be deployed in order to initiate the appropriate preventative maintenance. However, it is difficult to find these assets in time if the same asset is referenced by different names on other drilling equipment. This is one of the reasons that data governance is critical to ensuring the consistency of asset data naming. 4.1 The seabed environment around the monitoring facilities as mentioned earlier, oil exploration and production activities generate a wealth of structured and unstructured environmental information. Such information will need to be properly maintained after the facility itself has been scrapped to demonstrate compliance with environmental regulations. As a result, such information may need to be stored for 50-70 years, or even in some cases, for up to a century. While storage prices are low, they are not completely free. Data governance plans must establish a custodial schedule for specific types of information and corresponding archiving policies to move information to cheaper storage areas, if possible

Although this process is highly simplified, you can still get a strong argument about how the enterprise maps data governance policies to key business terms.
