Perhaps you have heard that the future of Mandriva Linux is confused.
Most of the employees working in this release were dismissed from the liquidation of the Mandriva subsidiary, Edge-it. In view of this, we can no longer trust the plans of Mandriva AG (Mandriva SA). And we don't think the company (or any other company) can provide reliable support for the project.
Many things have happened in the past 12 years. Some are wonderful, such as the Mandriva Linux community has grown, vibrant and experienced. This release is still one of the most popular distributions and award winning products, easy to use, and innovative. Other things are so bad that people lack confidence in the viability of their favorite release.
People working in this release don't want to be held hostage to the company's economic volatility and erratic and unexpected strategic moves.
Creating a branch of an existing open source project is not an easy decision because creating a branch of Mandriva Linux is a daunting task.
This is by no means a whim. We, including our former employees, cooker contributors and community members, have been consulting for a long time. Over the past many days, we have widely collected opinions and feedback, we need to be widely recognized before action, and summon like-minded people.
We believe that creating a branching project is the best solution. So we've decided to create a new release: Mageia.
Mageia is a community project: its future will not be sustained by the fate of a particular company.
Shortly thereafter, a non-profit organization will be established and will be administered by a community Council member committee. Next year, the Committee will be elected periodically by members of the community who are committed to the project.
This organization will manage and coordinate the work of the distribution: source code and software hosting and distribution, system establishment, market operation, communication and activities. Through this organization's discussion, the distribution of data, situation, 17895.html "> Roadmap and design ideas will be shared with you."
In the days to come we will discuss and develop the details of the release.
The Mageia distribution will evolve in accordance with the Commission's vision and be based on the help and contribution of the community as a whole. We have ideas and plans for a new release, including:
Make Linux and http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/29607.html "> free software available directly to anyone; Provide integrated system configuration tools; For the underlying system, desktop environment (kde/ GNOME) and applications for high levels of integration, especially the integration of third parties (free software or proprietary software), new architectures, new specifications, and improved understanding of users of computers and electronic devices.
You must also have your own ideas. We will share with you in the later time.
