Scientists in the German city of Wartberg, using sonar-like principles, have successfully used sound waves to connect computers or other digital devices in concept validation.

The traditional view that, as long as the computer is not connected to the network, do not use U disk, do not accept any electronic connection requests, can effectively prevent hackers intrusion. The German scientist's experiment used a similar sonar concept, and the first development of sonar was to satisfy underwater communications. Experiments show that hackers may use sound waves to invade your computer.

"Sound waves are not in the range of existing computer communication designs, so they can be used as a covert channel to cheat systems and network rules," said Hanspach Michael Goetz, a member of the team. We use sound modem devices to create a covert channel between different computer systems that transmits data through the air medium. ”

In layman's parlance, the team used an "air cat" to transmit information between different computers.

The concept of a stealth sonic mesh network has made many of the traditional security concepts ineffective because people do not normally consider Sonic communications, the two researchers said.

The study is very important because mobile phones and laptops are increasingly using voice understanding and manipulation functions. Apple's Siri lets people use voice to manipulate and control the iphone. Google Android and Microsoft's Xbox One also have a similar voice control system.

Theoretically, hackers can use voice control to invade computers, mobile phones or gaming consoles without any electronic connection, making enough meaningful and dangerous moves. But now the experiment is still in the proof-of-concept phase, which is designed to show the possibility of a new process or manufacturing technology, not as an early sample of production design.

However, there is such a technology in the future there is the possibility of large-scale applications. Fortunately, German researchers have also come up with this and are already studying ways to reverse the invasion. "We also discussed ways to stop sonic intrusion, including using Low-pass filters and an intrusion detection system to analyze audio input and output," they said in a study. ”

In the bud, it seems that major electronics manufacturers are about to start busy.
