Surfing the Internet at work can help improve the efficiency of work, according to a new study by the National University of Singapore. Tang Chen, a researcher at the National University of Singapore (Don j.q Chen) and Vivian Vivien K.g Lim, unveiled the new findings at last week's annual meeting of the San Antonio Institute of Management in Texas, USA. According to the results of the study, compared to text messaging, telephone or chat and other relaxation methods, the Internet can better reduce the employees in the work of fatigue, thereby enhancing efficiency.

In this study, the researchers divided 96 undergraduate students majoring in management into 3 groups: control group, "Rest" group and "Internet" group. In the first 20 minutes, 3 groups of students need to find all the letters that need to be marked from a Fan Wenzhong. For the next 10 minutes, students in the control group were assigned to do other simple tasks, and the students in the "rest" group could do everything except the Internet, while the "Internet" group had access to the Internet. Subsequently, three groups of students spent another 10 minutes to find more letters from Fan Wenzhong.

The researchers found that, compared to the other two groups, students in the "Internet" group were more productive and reported less mental fatigue. "Surfing the internet is a good way to restore the body," the authors say. "By contrast, sending and receiving personal emails can be a bother to work.

The researchers then carried out similar experiments in 191 adults and obtained the same results. When surfing the Internet, people usually choose to visit their favorite sites, like coffee or snacks, which can make people happier, says Vivien Lin. In contrast, employees have no control over the messages they receive, and reading and replying to them is more difficult than surfing the internet.

Based on the findings, the researchers suggest that companies should not unduly limit the activity of their employees. Business managers should allow employees to surf the internet at certain times, as this has a positive impact on employee productivity.
