Microsoft's announcement of an extended feature, which integrates Facebook plug-ins into Bing's search results, is now mainly displayed on the added button "likes", which is more a reflection of a war between Microsoft and Google in future social search.
Just on the same day that Google announced the integration of tweets into search results, Microsoft announced the integration of Facebook features into the Bing toolbar and browser, but did not announce the "likes" feature until 24th this month.
Microsoft's integration is almost the same as Google's, but it has replaced Twitter with Facebook. Now the display of Bing search results shows the home page of the search friend directly in the results (pictured below), which is in stark contrast to the previous version, where the preferred pages are separated from the real results.
While it's not clear how much impact this feature will have on search results, it will have a greater impact over time as the search becomes more social. The war on the line has just begun, and it is now Facebook and Bing against Google and Twitter. We look forward to seeing what social Google will become, and whether users will turn their search requests to Bing.
This social search war is just beginning, and I have a hunch that there will be a long time to go.
