The World Intellectual Property Organization (organisation) recently said that the 120 million web sites that are currently registered worldwide hold a significant portion of the intellectual companies.
The agency warned that the domain name-registration campaign was being run from a single Web site to a computer-controlled mass web site intended for advertising.
A new trend is to use computer software to automatically register expired domain names and then point them to the portal to attract "pay-per-click" Ads.
WIPO is particularly concerned about the development of proxy registered domain name services. The organization points out that the quorum system for the universal top-level domain name needs to disclose the identity of the site owner.
In 2006, the World Intellectual Property Organization received more than 1800 arbitration applications for domain name registration, an increase of One-fourth from 2005. Since its inception in 1999, the organization has resolved 9400 domain name disputes, 84% of which have won the case.
