Texas Instruments (TI), with its expertise in the smart grid market, has begun to provide samples for the fully integrated, intelligent Electronic Watch system (SoC) designed for smart Electronics Watches (E-meter). Single chip Integration metering (metrology), application and communication capabilities enable developers to simplify design, improve flexibility, and reduce system costs for smart electronic watches. Since no additional discrete components and redundant interfaces are required, this integration can enhance the reliability of intelligent electronic meters. The new smart watch SoC provides the ultimate high degree of integration of designers, with a full range of TI's smart grid electronic meter design products that enable customers to extend the intelligent electronic meter design from multiple discrete components to a new integrated solution.
The new smart watch SoC is a fully integrated solution that combines three separate engines. The metering engine can be up to 0.5% meter grade accuracy and support single-phase or three phase electronic meters. Independent industry landmark The ARM CORTEX-M3 core simplifies the development of an electronic watch management firmware (Dlms/cosem, advanced metering, application configuration, network stacking), and achieves security utility by up to 1MB of flash memory. Independent flexible communication engine supports a wide range of standards for power line Communications (PLC) and radio frequency (RF) communications, and designers will be able to design products that communicate with wide area network (WAN) and Home area Network (HAN) and enabled devices.
TI smart meter SoC features and advantages:
• Certified metering code can be completely independent of application code, helping developers relax software upgrades and maintenance.
• The communication engine has enough memory to support field upgrades (field upgrade) to reduce external memory costs.
• Supports TI Plcsuite software compliant with all narrow-frequency PLC standards, including G1, G3, PRIME, IEEE P1901.2, itu–g.9903, and g.9904: a single platform for global markets can reduce the cost of electronic meter development and shorten time-to-market.
• Contains multiple communication interfaces that can easily connect TI's RF transceivers to WAN and HAN on a single wafer (1GHz or 2.4GHz).
• Encrypt tables (encryption table) and memory protection help developers to enhance the safety of smart electronic watches products.
• Extensible platform supports future smart electronic meter feature sets through an external memory interface.
• Individual engine elastic pulse mechanism can adjust the processing power and electricity consumption according to the application demand.
• Insert TI's new smart watch circuit board (SMB) 3.0 supports advanced functionality and supports proximity wireless communication (NFC), secondary 1GHz, ZigBee and Wi-Fi connectivity options.
• Support for the following TI smart Grid software: 50470-1/3, IEC62053-21/22/23, ANSIC12.1/10/20 compatible metering library or metrosuite, Plcsuite, 1GHz frequency band RF Communications for single-phase or three-phase electronic watches (including 802.15.4g), CORTEX-M3 ZigBee Intelligent Energy Configuration (SEP) 1.x and SEP2.0, prepaid MIFARE, NFC, and encryption to meet design convenience and elasticity.
The smart watch SoC has started providing samples for the estimated volume production in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
