September 18 News, according to foreign media reports, Apple and Google have the smartphone operating system market, Qualcomm is the handset baseband chip market hegemony, Amazon is the king of the network retail area. But the field of IoT is completely different. There are no established standards in the emerging field of Internet of things, let alone the question of who will be the Lord.

The brain behind the internet of Things

The semiconductor company, Bo Tong, has just released its software development kit and equipment wiced, which is priced at $20 (about 123 yuan), and contains 5 sensors for the test IoT equipment. wiced configuration Bo Tong BCM20737 chip, Bo Tong Hope BCM20737 become an integral part of the internet of things. The wiced is integrated with an electronic compass, barometer and altimeter, humidity and temperature sensors, capable of sensing motion of gyroscopes and accelerometer sensors.

Bo Tong's BCM20737 chip support Apple's ibeacon indoor position tracking technology, A4WP wireless charging technology, has its own chip encryption and decryption security technology. Bo Tong BCM20737 has two most important features: small size and low price.

However, Intel has also made significant progress in the field of things networking, which has a revenue of 539 million US dollars (about 3.312 billion yuan) in the second quarter, more than 51 million U.S. dollars (about 313 million yuan) in the mobile business. Quark processors and Edison motherboards are an important part of Intel's Internet of Things program.

Intel uses its chip technology advantages to implement intelligent city projects in San Jose. Earlier this year, Intel joined with other companies to set up an industrial Internet alliance (Industrial Internet Consortium) to develop the Internet of things and security standards.

To avoid marginalization in the area of IoT, IBM recently unveiled a new processor called TrueNorth. "TrueNorth may become the brain of the Internet of things and will change the user's mobile experience," says a TrueNorth developer. "The Department of Defense Advanced Planning research has invested 53 million dollars (about 326 million yuan) on the TrueNorth project," he said. IBM wants TrueNorth to be a driving force in the development of the Internet of things, but the commercialization of TrueNorth may take several years.

Despite the rapid turnaround of IBM, Bo and Intel in the field of Internet access, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and other vendors have not stalled, and there is ample room for growth in the Internet of things, leading to the emergence of new leaders.

Connect everything

One of the biggest leaders in the field of machine-machine communications is Sierra Wireless. Tesla's Model S car uses the Sierra Wireless 3G Connection module to connect to At&t's mobile network. Nespresso's coffee machine, Sprint's mobile hotspot, mobile payment equipment, and energy regulatory system all use the Sierra Wireless 3G connection module. Despite its little fame, Sierra wireless accounts for about 34% of the world's embedded mobile phone machine-to-machine (machine-machine) business.

The Internet of things includes not only embedded chips, sensors and connection modules. GE is one of the biggest supporters of its so-called industrial Internet, which has a big impact on the IoT industry.

GE's Predix Software monitors networked "objects", such as aircraft engines, wind turbines and medical equipment, to ensure normal and efficient operation of the equipment. The Predix software can access sensors and connectivity modules, enabling enterprises to monitor the operation of equipment, collect data, and even "notify" potential problems before problems arise.

If the Internet could save 1% of aviation fuel for aircraft, it would save $15 billion a year (about 92.2 billion yuan), GE said. If the efficiency of the medical system is increased by 1%, it will save 63 billion dollars (about 387.1 billion yuan).

GE is not the only tech giant to focus on the internet of things. Cisco provides cloud data storage, intelligent city management, and provides Internet software Management services to industries such as oil and gas, mining, power and transportation. In addition to its own projects, Cisco also invested hundreds of millions of of dollars in internet start-ups.

Cisco is also a member of Intel's and GE-led industrial networking alliances and predicts 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020.

Open field

The company mentioned above is only a minority representative of the larger internet of things. Apple and Google are promoting the development of the Internet of things in their way, mainly home automation. However, there is more room for growth in the field of IoT, which can be used by more companies, and standardization will help to promote the popularization of IoT. At present, the fragmentation of the internet of things is very serious and not safe enough. With the development of the Internet of Things, the new company will contribute to the internet of things and further promote its development.
