Holiday shopping season e-commerce eats up real store sales
Beijing Time December 25 news, according to foreign media reports, in this year's holiday shopping season, physical stores and e-commerce sites have what kind of performance? If Wall Street's views are correct, that is to say, E-commerce sites have performed very well in this year's holiday shopping season, and sales of physical stores are not optimistic.
Wal-Mart's shares have fallen 1% in the past one months; Amazon's share price has risen by 6%, while the 8%;ebay-P 500 index has risen 3% per cent.
While Wal-Mart has performed well in E-commerce, it is not enough to make up for the impact of weak physical store sales on the company. The Wal-Mart website (walmart.com) is now the third-largest E-commerce site in the United States after Amazon and ebay, but Wal-Mart's network sales account for less than 10% of its total revenue, according to comscore, the Internet traffic monitoring agency.
Over the past one months, not just a Wal-Mart retailer's share price has slipped. Target shares fell 6% in the same period, with high-end retailer Macy's shares falling more than 8% per cent, and retailer Sears Holdings's share price dropped by 14%.
It's a mistake to think that big-shop retailers are doing badly online this year. But online sales are not enough to boost the overall sales of these retailers, like Wal-Mart, where real-store retailers account for only a fraction of the company's total sales.
While the market is pessimistic about the outlook for real-store retailers, it is worth noting that their e-commerce flows are moving in the right direction. From October to November this year, the traffic in Best Buy sites grew by 85%, according to ComScore's statistics, and the retailer Kohls Corp. 's Web site also grew 56%, with discount retailers j.c. Penney Co. 's independent access users increased by 48% over the same period.
This year's holiday sales are still unknown. Market analysts said the growth in the flow of traditional retailers ' online stores could reflect an increase in their store traffic. On the whole, however, Wall Street still believes that even the growth in the flow of internet stores in traditional retailers is not enough to compensate for the impact Amazon has on their businesses.
