What is the best time to deploy a cloud desktop?

Recently, there are a lot of discussions about Daas, so that some people feel that everyone has migrated to the cloud desktop environment, but now Daas this small market is just become a consideration for everyone.

However, on a global scale, Virtual Desktop infrastructure (VDI) still does not have a 5% market share, and desktop as a service (DaaS) is not accepted because of many of the same problems. That leaves us wondering what the Daas can do with it?

In fact, the best use of Daas is the same as VDI: device type independence, centralized management, stable performance, and remote access. I asked a lot of Daas vendors about the most appropriate use they saw, the most successful Daas deployment case, and here are some of my gains:

Scale up VDI

The first use of Daas is companies that have already deployed VDI, which want to scale to meet the needs of more users, or face the challenge of replacing old hardware. Companies facing this need find it possible to use Daas without having to implement a very complex project.

Remote employee

Another scenario where VDI is often used is the remote user.

One of the features of the cloud desktop is that you can use different data centers to provide desktop access to users who are physically closer to the physical, without the need for local VDI. This can sometimes be done through multiple vendors, because vendors use only a few Daas platforms, so you can choose to use the same platform (and management tools) across multiple vendors.

Yes, you can choose the right place to deploy the VDI environment, but for that reason, the scalability of Daas means you don't have to buy too many desktops (or worry about buying too few desktops).

Outsourced staff and temporary staff

Even companies that do not have VDI deployed have come to realize that Daas can meet the needs of temporary employees well. They don't have to be banned from using potentially viral computers to connect to production networks (which I was ashamed of when I was a outsourced employee years ago), and the company can allow them to connect any device to the external network and then point the devices to the Daas desktop, Meet any needs for the way they need secure access.

This isolation is just one of its many advantages, and scalability also means that you only need to buy a desktop based on the number of employees. The desktop is reserved without the possibility of a possible use, and there is no need to purchase too much VDI hardware to prepare for possible more outsourced employees or temporary staff.

Cloud Burst

This is a potential use-but it is not widely used now. The idea behind cloud bursts is that you can connect local VDI to the cloud provider, and when more resources are needed in the VDI environment, you can seamlessly connect to the cloud to meet your needs. This approach has been discussed when cloud computing has just appeared, but so far, no suppliers have launched the corresponding fully automated, centralized management program.

In some cases, especially with Citrix products, companies can build their own environments and then work with Citrix service providers to meet additional performance requirements. Citrix is studying the program and is confident that it will soon be ready to launch a mature product.

On the other hand, if you have overcome the challenge of running your desktop in the cloud, why build your own VDI environment? Why not start by putting your desktop in the cloud so you don't have to worry about how to build and maintain your own platform.

There is no doubt that there are more uses for Daas. This article is a few of the most common uses I've had in talking to vendors about how to successfully deploy a cloud desktop.
