Microsoft has announced. NET Framework 4.0 to 4.5.1 version of the life cycle end plan. After January 12, 2016, all technical support, including security and non-security update patches, will be discontinued. Developers and users can then choose to fall back to the. NET 3.5 SP 1 version, or upgrade to the 4.5.2 version.
A preview version of the. NET 4.0 Framework was released in 2009, and the first official version was released in April in 2010, along with updates to the history library and newly added libraries. This release is also the first update to the common language runtime since 2006 when the common language runtime version 2 was released. Since then, the version 4.0.X series has undergone three updates, in April 2011 and October, as well as 2012 years of March.
Based on the same common language runtime, the 4.5 version series began in August 2012, when it was primarily used to support Windows Vista and later operating systems. The update for this release series occurred in 2013 in October and 2014 in May. Currently the latest version is. NET 4.5.2, and Microsoft expects developers and users to migrate to this version before January 2016.
After Microsoft announced that it was no longer supporting non-current versions of Internet Explorer, a release announcement was issued shortly thereafter. Although the exact motives of Microsoft to do so have not yet been disclosed, the reasons for this move are clear. If a major security issue is discovered today, Microsoft will need to develop, test, and deploy patch packages for. NET 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3, 4.5, 4.5, 1, and 4.5.2.
As we mentioned in the introduction, Microsoft will continue to provide support for. NET 3.5 SP 1. This version has been integrated into the operating system life cycle of Windows 7 and Windows Server R2, and will be supported for 2020 years as per the current setting.
