"Of course, Google still faces many challenges, such as too many hardware brands on the Android platform, falling smartphone prices, and only a few Android vendors can make a profit.

Overall, global smartphone shipments were up 27% from a year earlier, to 320.4 million. In the third quarter of last year, global smartphone shipments were 252.9 million.
