1. Download the official driver http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

2. install necessary software packages. To generate a deb Binary Package, google may need to build-essential, fakeroot, module-assistant, and linux-header-$ (uname-r. Then sudo./ati-driver-installer-x-x-x86.x86_64.run -- buildpkg Debian/etch to generate 4 deb packages

3. Install the generated deb package. At this time, the system will require the fglrx to be upgraded, but it is actually downgraded to deb provided by Debian ...... Sudo dpkg-I xxx. deb

4. Compile fglrx to the kernel sudo module-assistant prepare sudo module-assistant auto-install fglrx. However, it usually fails! Regardless of it, go to/usr/src and install the generated deb.

5. Check whether fglrx, modprobe-l | grep fglrx exists in the kernel.

6. Back up and modify/etc/X11/xorg. conf, add load "fglrx" to Section "Module", and change the Driver in Section "Device" to "fglrx"

7. Restart X

8. Check whether the driver is enabled.

A. There is the ATI Catalyst Control Center in the menu. If the OpenGL item in Information is a graphics card model, it indicates that it is installed. If it is MESA, it is not used as the source driver.

B. Run fglrxinfo. The result is similar to: display: 0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon 9550/X1050 Series OpenGL version string: 2.1.7537 Release.

C. Run fgl_glxgears. Check the number of running frames. If the driver fails to be installed, fgl_glxgears cannot run.

Note: Debian is really a good system. I have never installed fglrx on Ubuntu before, and Debian can still install X even if fglrx has no driver.
